U.S. Chamber to Tea Party: “We’ll get rid of you.”
When asked asked if Congress was going to raise the debt ceiling, U.S. Chamber of Commerce president Tom Donohue replied that it would. And for the Tea Party freshman faction who insist they won't and will shut down government he had this message:
"We’ll get rid of you."

5. Duh!! The Chamber helped CREATE the Tea Party ... the entire thing is fake.
The Chamber and FreedomWorks will stop funding Tea Party events. Beck is headed OUT of Fox.

The Tea Party is already dead, it just doesn't know it.

It's going to be replaced by Citizen's United cash.

When they start messing with money, the Chamber will go rogue on them.

9. There is no fight, the Teabaggers are just temporary help that will be dismantled
when they no longer serve.

12. Sorry to harsh your buzz but I can't let it slide on who the tail is and who the dog is
The situation being what it is, there should be little reason for cheer. Dismantling the Teabaggers just means they have outlived their usefulness and our screwing is closer to completion.

They don't need them, they were just a re-branding tool to get hacked of morons back to the polls.

13. OTOH...did you read this?
Surprisingly, Donohue did advocate for tax increase. “I do want to increase the federal gas tax,” he said. “We haven’t done that in 18 years.”

Because vehicles have become so much more fuel efficient, drivers — including truckers — have been paying about half of what they used to pay in gasoline taxes. More revenue is needed to properly maintain the nation’s roads and highways. Donohue proposed increasing the gas tax by 5 cents a year for four years.

Admitting that revenues need to increase, but oh no, no, no not on the rich guys. Increase the taxes on the poor schmucks that are already paying a huge percentage of their paychecks on gasoline just to get to and from work...but no no no, not Exxon or Shell etc. They are evil.

19. That is a very important admission right there, and should be highlighted.
They're all for tax increases, just not on people with more than a million dollars. Those people should get tax cuts. The suckers who work for a living get a tax increase.

16. Boehner put on his big boy pants
"In one of the funnier moments during his Rotary talk, Donohue was asked if Congress was going to raise the debt ceiling.

Yes, it will be raised, Donohue answered, mainly because the country can not afford to not pay its bills. To those newly-elected representatives who say they aren’t going to raise the debt ceiling and will shut down government, Donohue said the U.S. Chamber has its own message: “We’ll get rid of you.”

He then went on to praise U.S. House Speaker John Boehner for his Congressional leadership.

“He’s growing into his shorts,” Donohue said. “He’s put on his big boy pants.”

20. Koch Bros vs Chamber?
The Tea Party's Koch bros have a lot more money than the Chamber. Could be an interesting showdown.

Edited on Tue Jun-14-11 06:51 PM by Warren DeMontague
I doubt the Koch brothers genuinely give a shit about creationism or outlawing birth control or all the other inanities that get your avg. tea partier excited. The 'tea party' has, from the outset, been nothing more than an attempt to re-brand the same old crazy christian right wack-a-doo republican base.

They will do as they're told, and vote as they're told, or all of a sudden they will find themselves adrift on little floating islands of astroturf.

18. And this is just what I (and others) have been saying
all along. ALL of the noise about trading the debt ceiling raise for draconian cuts in SS, Medicare, etc. was just a bluff. The debt ceiling WILL be raised because the capitalists WANT the debt ceiling raised. This is just proof of that. Call their bluff Democrats. It IS a bluff.
