Is a resignation really punishment?
It seems like that is one interpretation. IMO it is simply a move to cut losses, or make a change. My hope is that Weiner will cut his losses and provide us with an opportunity to have someone without baggage take on the "truth to power" role he had. We could then have a new addition to our delegation that has not been caught telling ridiculous lies. His talent for speaking out is no longer useful. Wanting him to resign is not about punishing him. It is just hoping for a sensible solution to a problem he created.

I don't care what the Republicans did with insignificant representatives that got caught. It's their business to decide whether it hurts or helps them politically for those guys to remain in office.

Leaving office for the good of the party is a strategic move, not a flogging.

3. Is that why he ran in the first place?
I would hope not. I think he ran with the intention to help move the national agenda in a direction those of us here want to see it go. I also hope that he will honestly evaluate his ability to do that, without his ego getting in the way.

5. True...
Losing the title that enables his narcissism is probably like losing the corvette so that a person can't drive drunk.
