1. That is old news. The Mother and girl have already said there was nothing inappropriate.

Mother of 17 year old says: "Representative Weiner NEVER tweeted her anything inappropriate ..."

2. Notice that I said all of that -- however the parents are still concerned
that he had private communication with her --

What if she were your 17 year old daughter -- would you be happy about this?

Meanwhile, this is the kind of stuff that FOX is going to be pushing for --

which is the point -- and why the pressures on Weiner to leave will increase.

3. It is not against the law for a congressperson to talk to 17 year olds.
Edited on Sat Jun-11-11 05:54 PM by Tx4obama
She sent him a direct messages to tell him that she was being harassed by folks on Twitter due to her following him on Twitter.
He replied to her message.
There is nothing illegal or inappropriate about that.

And we all already know that FoxNews had reporters at the girls home BEFORE the police arrived there.

Yes, FoxNews folks are assholes - but this should not be pinned on Weiner, in this instance he did nothing wrong.

Edited to add:
The link to the article you posted doesn't contain the newest quotes from the Mother of girl.
So, I find the OP put in LBN to be misleading and not completely truthful regarding where the story now stands.

5. As far as I knew I posted the article in GD ... not in latest ...
Edited on Sat Jun-11-11 07:33 PM by defendandprotect
if it got there it was accidental --

I don't put anything in Latest as a rule --

However, to deny that there is a legitimate concern when someone has done what Weiner

has done in sending personal sexual pics on the internet, would be foolish.

Whatever the newest quotes from the Mother are ... how about posting them here -- ?

7. Sure, here ya go ...

Mother of 17 year old says: "Representative Weiner never tweeted her anything inappropriate ..."

Excerpt:

SNIP

The mother, whose name is being withheld, told The Post Wednesday that Weiner sent nothing obscene and only sent two brief messages to her daughter about seeing him during an April school trip to the Capitol.

The teen, who idolized Weiner, was "disappointed" in him after his confession.

The mom said she pointedly questioned her daughter about whether Weiner sent her anything obscene, and the girl swore it was all G-rated. "I guess because he knew she was in high school," the mom said, though she added it was weird Weiner would spend any time communicating directly with her daughter.

The mom did say her daughter wrote in one message, "Im in love with you," but explained it away with, "Shes 17." "None of us will be getting our 15 minutes of fame because of this nonsense," the mom said. "Representative Weiner never tweeted her anything inappropriate ... That is the answer, honestly."

11. Thank you -- good to have it as part of the DU record --
I'm still trying to figure out how the article got into Latest, however!

'Cause .. I know I didn't go thru any of the Latest gates -- it's an entirely

different form and process than GD.

Again, this is one teenager -- and I don't think we can presume at any stage

that we know all that Weiner did on the internet and with whom.

That's the danger of what he did -- for himself and for the public.

By, the way -- what do you imagine the diagnosis of his problems will be ????

Presume they'll have to have a name for it before the treat it?

9. That's actually not how the interaction began
It did not start with her sending him a direct message about being harassed by folks on Twitter.

It started with him sending her a private message unsolicited.

From the NY Times:

The girls contact with Mr. Weiner started in early April, after her trip to Washington. The congressman spoke to her school group, and she began following him on Twitter, posting a public message saying how much she liked his speech.

Two days later, Mr. Weiner began following her on Twitter. On her profile, she says she aspires to be president. In a private message he sent to her, he said: How hip am I talking to a future president.

14.  As long as nothing lewd was said...
...what the hell's the harm??? Good Gravy! In THIS day and age, parent's should be EXTRA vigilant of their kids electronic messaging of ANY sort. And not just by asking the little darling if they're being good! DEMAND access to their accounts on threat of shutting them down or else. If YOU'RE paying the bills and providing clothes, shelter and whatnot, you have a RIGHT to know what trouble that darling little gift is trying to get theirselves (and possibly you, as well) into.
