One quick way to fix the economy: Send people to federal prison
No, I don't mean bust a lot more pot smokers and send them to jail for the rest of their lives. This will actually work.

The federal government owns a corporation called Federal Prison Industries. You can see what they make at http://www.unicor.gov.

FPI has a factory at every federal penitentiary, and the prisoners work in it. There is no reason why we couldn't reassign the prisoners who work there to other jobs like highway maintenance, and bus law-abiding citizens to the prisons to work in the FPI factories. Payroll would have to go up because Unicor doesn't pay the prisoners very much, and we'd have to come up with a way to legally sell the stuff to non-government consumers. This is a demand-side solution because the people so employed will be able to spend money.

The ideal endstate would be for private industries to buy the product lines made at a particular prison, bring the law-abiding workers into a private-sector factory and release the FPI factory back to prisoner labor.

2. Well...
I like the idea of sending people to federal prison, like George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, all the rest of the Bush gang, those on Wall street that caused the financial meltdown, bankers who helped wall street, and a whole bunch of the republicans in congress who have prevented any new jobs, or any programs that will actually help those who needed it instead of only helping corporations and the rich who don't need it! Now if we could send them all to prison put them on road gangs, and implement your plan, I am all for it!

3. Isn't there a federal pen in Georgia?
Or at least a jail fairly close to a wetlands? It seems to me the proper sentence for that bunch involves removing alligators from swamps, without guns of course.
