What do I do other then pay a locksmith hundreds of dollars to make a new key?

1. The PK3s cost $70 anyway. Best bet is to take the VIN to a Ford dealer.
A locksmith would have to do the same thing so you would just be adding a layer of overhead to the cost.

2. You can go to the dealership, give them the VIN
and they will have a new key made for you. This is a lengthy process for permanent replacement, though.

In the meantime, locksmith is the way to go.

3. Couple of options...if you have Triple A
they can open the car door for you, and allow you to get into the glove compartment. There should be a number in there, or you can use the VIN (I think)...call the local dealership and tell them that you need a new "master key."

I am not sure how much that runs, but it's certainly not "hundreds."

Good luck with that!

4. good question.
i'd try calling the ford dealer with the VIN on the off chance that they'll be able to trace what key went into your car and replace it for you. if you have AAA they may be able to help. but i'm thinking you're probably out however much the locksmith charges. i recommend getting a dupe.

which i should do for both my cars. hmmm

6. Are you close to a dealership?
You could tow, and then get coded keys done from the dealer...

7. Dealership as others have said. Reminds me that we only have one key for my wife's car.
Gotta change that.

8. My son owned a Ford Truck in the 1990's and lost a key,
The dealer actuallly had a big box full of loose keys and we tried out each key till we found the one that worked. I don't know if dealers will still do that.

9. Probably not
A lot of cars these days have chips in the keys. Without that chip, you can not start it.
