25. I did not fall either
I was married to an expert cheating liar. I know that when someone weasel words a response that they are telling a story. When he said he could not guarantee it was not a photo of himself... I knew then it was a lie. It is a sad thing as he is one of our best in your face reps.

Edited on Mon Jun-06-11 03:34 PM by ClarkUSA
His initial non-denial and refusal to go to the FBI raised big red flags.

I always thought John Edwards was guilty, too.

Both times, I was attacked and so were others here.

23. I got flamed too
for being "concerned" about the answer he gave. I really thought that if the photo was of him he should have just admitted it and moved on. Didn't go over too well.

Lying about this kind of thing or trying to cover it up just makes matters worse.

At this point, unless a crime was committed, this should be between him, his wife and his constituents. Vidder survive worse, maybe Weiner will get through this.

It was just becoming a big circle-jerk on here, people falling all over themselves to believe him. I still like the guy, but the non-denial denials set off big alarm bells. I guess it's just a function of getting old!

24. Count Me Among the Nonbelievers From the Beginning
but I'm so sorry that the story ends this way. His refusal to call in the police and instead consult a lawyer coupled with his poor responses to the press made it impossible for me to accept that he was innocent. I was hoping though that he was merely guilty of something other than sending this particular picture. This ending is so surreal and shame on him for allowing his enemy to gain an upper hand in dictating how the story ends.

You hire a lawyer when you want complete control over what information is released, not when you want a real investigation.

I feel just fine. Andrew Breitbart is a known liar. A group of black-ops wingnut social media shits was outed. Congressman Weiner came clean.

I have no problems and do not feel at all foolish in supporting the congressman and helping to dig deeper into the story than the lazy professional media did.

People who are advocates like he is, use the trust we have in them, as a "security blanket"..they think we will always love them and forgive them their trespasses....but of course in this day & age, everything is different..

He has been a vocal advocate for a very long time, and should have known that "people would LOVE to shut him up"...and of course the best way is to make him afraid to show up anywhere..:(

37. I tend to support issues more than people
Insofar as I supported Weiner or Edwards it was because of the issues they talked about, the policies they promoted. If those policies are being promoted by dishonest or less than honorable or otherwise imperfect people, that does not make the policies wrong. Somebody who fights for many of the things I believe in, I consider a friend, and I stand by my friends and have their back even if they engage in a pecadillo and naturally try to cover it up or deny it. Nobody's perfect. Even some otherwise very good people can do some really dumb or strange things.

59. It certainly seems that way...
About blind faith, I mean.

Unfortunately, people get so caught up in wanting or needing to believe someone that they totally miss little signs and red flags.

OK I can understand it happening with family or friends. Spouses...potential lovers. People we have some emotional connection with.

But a politician?

I don't get that part. Maybe it's just me. I don't care for whom I vote. I don't have that much of an emotional connection to the person. I mean, I want to believe him/her, but I'm certainly not going to ignore disturbing little signs I see or hear.

To all his staunch defenders here on DU: YOUR BOY LIED TO YOU.

I love his politics, but I'm sure there are others who can take his place with equally progressive politics. He just handed the enemy a big KICK ME card.

It doesn't matter if it was legal, if it wasn't physical, etc. What matters is that he LIED about it.

The minute he started prevaricating on whether the picture was of him, it was obvious to me he was up to his neck in this. The increasingly shrill support he got here after that seemed a bit over the edge to me, especially in its hostility toward those who disagreed. I'm not expecting any apologies, though.
