GOP: Unions foiling auto turnaround
Source: UPI

WASHINGTON, June 4 (UPI) -- Labor unions are stifling U.S. auto and aircraft manufacturing, Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee said in the party's weekly Saturday address.

In an unusual direct rebuttal to President Barack Obama's address in which he said the government's $22 billion loans to Chrysler, Ford and General Motors were a success, Alexander said Democrats' endorsement of unions was undermining the aircraft and auto workforce.

He cited a ruling by the National Labor Relations Board last month that prevented Boeing from building airplanes at a non-union plant in South Carolina.

"Boeing is America's largest exporter, but we want them to export airplanes, not jobs," the senator said.

In case you aren't paying attention, Republicans are setting the stage for taking Gov. Walker's anti-union crusade in Wisconsin national in 2012. The stall in the economy is not due to House Republicans ignoring the economy and opposing any efforts to stimulate in favor of gutting Medicare. Rather, its the fault of unions.

You would like to think that whatever Republicans emerges from the primaries will not try to roll back the National Labor Relations Act if not repeal it in its entirety. But this is a top goal of the Koch brothers, thus it is a goal of the national GOP.

So, give Republicans a free pass, blame the Democrats, and ignore the fact that Republicans and planning in plain sight to destroy unions in 2012. All they need are a Republican president and a few more Republicans in the Senate, and the repeal of the NLRA will be on the top of GOP wishlists.

10. President Obama is about as pro-union as you can get. Compared to GOP Alternative?
Also, lets get this straight. The GOP is proposing to kill unions. Look at Wisconsin. The GOP is going to try to blame the economy of unions and Democrats even though they got their beloved tax cut extension and they have controlled the House over the past year, and have not done squat.

Still, many folks will follow Roger Ailes' directive and Blame Democrats and Give Republicans a free pass. Rinse and repeat.

5. anti-union attacks start at the local limbaugh station and our Unis need to stop helping: petition
lamar alexander has the RW talk radio machine at his back. limbaugh has been calling union members and public employees leeches and bottom feeders for 20 years and then our universities endorse the attacks by him and his wannabes by broadcasting sports on them- it needs to stop.

here's a petition, text below...

http://signon.org/sign/american-universities-1?source=c.url&r_by=241761

American Universities: Stop broadcasting athletics on Rush Limbaugh radio stations.

To be delivered to: American Universities and Colleges

“We the undersigned, demand that our state funded universities and colleges immediately find alternative non-partisan radio stations to broadcast their athletics.

By broadcasting on Rush Limbaugh and other political talk radio stations they endorse partisan political propaganda, global warming denial, hate, racism, and attacks on our unions and teachers, and therefore contradict their own stated goals and mission statements.”

Most talk radio stations in the US are dedicated to partisan politics and pro corporate propaganda. On most, only a small percentage of their prime time broadcasting includes non-partisan programing including state and local sports, weather, and traffic.

By broadcasting athletics on these stations our universities endorse and give community credibility and acceptability to talk stars like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Michael Savage, and significantly increase their local ad revenues.
Most national talkers are protected by call screeners from challenge and correction. There is evidence of regular participation by paid callers.

Long term attacks by these and other national and local talkers directed at teachers, unions, global warming science, as well as coordinated political disinformation and direct and inferred racism, sexism, and hate mongering, make radio stations that broadcast them unacceptable partners for American institutions of higher learning, as well as their students and faculty.

6. Judging from the latest earning reports, the auto industry seems to be getting back on its feet.
However, I do not understand how it can be legal for the NLRB to determine where a company should build its products. And people wonder why so many manufacturing jobs have left the country.

Boeing should ignore this ruling and get back to work.

7. Boeing stated the second plant was needed because of union strikes in other locations

That makes the new plant illegal retaliation for past strikes!

9. In any case, it appears that Boeing is doing exactly as I suggested. The are proceeding with
with their work and will start assembling planes in S.C. in July.

Clearly, their attorneys are confident that the NLRB has violated the law and by moving forward, they are limiting the damages that the NLRB will be responsible for when this is settled.

The law is on their side.
