20. Sounds like a lameass Republicon spin point
...trying to shift blame, and once again -- as is so typical of republicons -- FAILing to accept reponsiblity for their threatened tantrums if their fatcat payola RepubliCronies did not get more, more, more more....while screwing the citizens of the USA.

13. I am not sure if that changes the withholding though.
For myself, my hours vary from paycheck to paycheck, so I do not know what a standard paycheck is.

15. Same with me -- you make a good point. Wonder how they do figure it out.
Can't think of why the OP's check would be smaller otherwise, though.

Are we paying more for SS?

5. the payroll tax cut is offset by the expiration of the "Making work pay" tax credit
for a lot of people it will mean a net tax increase.

12. Wish Making Work Pay was extended
I received that tax credit last year.
Don't get my first 2011 paycheck until next Thursday. Will see then if my check went up or down.

Even then you may get a reprimand or a scary censure.

35. Yes, because paying the government for services I'll never get to use vs. eating today is smart....
dude(ette), seriously?

The revolution of non participation in our government funding structure will come from the left, not the right. Who wants to pay their taxes for a library, transit, community health center, etc. that is pared back to 1 day a week?

When there is no benefit to participation, the underground economy explodes.

I can hear the boom, can you?

36. If you are doing all cash transactions
and don't use a bank you'll probably be OK, but if there is any tax trail, it will catch up with you eventually.

My brother didn't think he needed to file his taxes. He was such a "little guy" who would bother with him. But, once someone filed a 1099 on him for work he did -- and didn't report -- he was in for a world of hurt. Between the fines, fees and interest, he has been screwed ever since. The IRS does not go away, no matter how little you are or how much you think you are justified. And just like education loans, they will follow you beyond the grave.

Do whatever you want. I just don't want anyone to get the idea that there aren't repercussions.

10. I do payroll for our church and so I called one of the accountants at the Diocese.
He said that the Federal went up and that is why it is like that. He said some got more and some got less. Checking the others paychecks, some did go up and some down.

I thought maybe it in anticipation of the computer pre-tax credit expiring and they'll make it up next month. Get paid for first time in 2011 tomorrow.

18. I was always one week behind in my pay
This weeks pay check would for be for last weeks work. That way it gave payroll time to figure out how much someone was supposed to be paid before payday.

I don't guess they do that any more?

30. I guess that is the price you pay...
for being a fat cat entitled Middle School Nurse. Yeah, I could have gone with the dirt cheap insurance hospital, but the only thing they were #1 in was hospital acquired infections. This is Houston and we know our hospitals.

If I leave the schools, I make more money and get better insurance. Why do people want to get rid of good staff. Thank God I am close to retirement.

31. I don't get paid until Friday, but I looked at my paystub online today.
My Federal W/H went up $16, and my SS deduction went down $21, so it's basically a wash for me. Means I'll be contributing over $500 less in SS this year--not good. Of course, who knows if any of it will even be there in another 20 years....
