Why the big media frenzy about the Weiner "dick pic"?
I've been ignoring this story because I just didn't think it was that big of a deal. I figured that somebody sent a photo of Weiner's penis to somebody using his Twitter account, maybe not a very tasteful thing to do, but not a big deal. Turns out that it's not even a penis pic, just a pic that supposedly shows a clothed penis bulge? WTF?

Seriously, if it weren't for the Right-Wing propaganda machine fueling this story, would this even be a big deal? IMHO, this is exactly what this is, pure RW-propaganda. It's an attempt to distract from the GOP train wreck. We're supposed to ignore the fact that FOX is practically giving Palin free and uncontested political advertising; we're supposed to ignore the GOP's attempts to hold the economy hostage. No, what's more important is this? Seriously?

4. It would be news-worthy...
...if Weiner had posted a shot of his camel toe, THEN we'd have something to buzz about.

And the irony meter would implode.

5. They will currently
resort to testing, (keep in mind you are being tested) anything that will grab attention and create controversy about things that have nothing to do with our current, critical crises and the terms of our eternal enslavement.

The OP is not wrong in bringing it up, but notice that this non-subject has come up over and over here at DU, as have other distortions and distractions that are intended to grab attention and bury subjects so important that our lives, our liberty and the fate of our planet can be side-tracked.

We are in a very critical and transitional time. It is one that may be unparalleled in history. They can bring on the clowns and jesters to distract and dissuade us, we can be persistent and get back to the crucial points that matter most when everything is on the table and we are facing the greatest loss that any people in history ever have.

What are the stakes? What are the odds? Who is invested in what and what is their purpose in presenting what they do? If you have that down, you are already ahead of this game.

You nail it. I'm really not optimistic at all about where this "critical and transitional time" is taking us.

They totally ignore real issues and the big problems, and are obsessed with sex.

22. Well the joke is on us, ey?
I consider the mass media to be nothing more than a McPravada. They are in the business of serving the interests of corporatism, across-the-board. From news to entertainment, and with the commercials in between, it is one big mind screw that manufactures consent and molds the culture for the sake of profitable special interests.

The problem lies in the understanding and perception of the process.

14. I'm not sure.
I don't work in the industry, but I think TV is driven by ratings.

Not what's right or wrong, what's a good story or not. Ratings.

What people want to know about. Look how many threads are here on DU.

And you're surprised it's on TV? We can't even stop talking about it.

17. Remember Nixon's "enemies list"?
It was a list of his political enemies his administration targeted to be "screwed" by "the available federal machinery."

Today the Right has a lot more machinery available to use in screwing its enemies.

21. It's in the Washington media's comfort zone
If it involves a Democratic politician and something that could-sort-of-if-you-squint involve something remotely sexually-related, they're on it like (insert disgusting imagery here).

It's junior high. Washington media is full of superannuated middle schoolers.

23. Hug, I asked the same question on one of the threads yesterday
and the two women that responded got snippy with one saying if I didn't like them I didn't have to read them and the other claimed they were outraged because Brietbart was a fascist and had to be stopped. Ya, like expanding his popularity by talking endlessly about a non-event political dirty tricks is going to do that.

I thought it was curious most of the posters were women keeping alive the Weiner weiner story and suggested that. Crickets was my response.

This whole pattern is so PavRovean, with the Rovelov dogs lapping it up.

Must be the Clarence Thomas thing or the fact that the markets are about to implode again. Either way it's the same old same old.

Just my dos centavos
