Why not include your (geographical) state in your profile?

This is inspired by another thread, but I run into it here on a regular basis.

When posting about a situation you are running into, or a friend or neighbor has run into, it can be very helpful for the rest of us to have some idea what part of the country you are in.

I know I would not offer the same advice to people living in Florida that I would offer to residents of Oregon (depending on the situation).

Is there some logic behind this that escapes me?

1. Sometimes people like the anonymity
Personally I'm not too worried about the State but I don't go so far as to name my city or the company I work for.

4. i would not mention anything as relevant as place of work, kids school, or anything specific.
i give the city because this area is much different from southern texas or the bigger cities. panhandle is unique in its conservatism

5. Privacy
Some people just do not want to reveal which state they live in. They just figure it is none of anyone else's business. Not being a smart ass here, just stating one possible reason (that I know of) that someone might not want to add that information.
