This WeinerGate bullshit is proof positive that our corporate owned media is broken beyond repair
Edited on Wed Jun-01-11 01:35 PM by MrScorpio
The Fourth Estate is a key part of our democracy. Without it, we lack an informed electorate and the means to keep The Oligarchy in check.

We see again that they refuse to do their damned jobs.

Woe to us all.

People starving all over the place and a brutal police state/dictatorship and no rights for women either.

52. I was watching Insider
Or The Insider... I can't remember, the one with Crowe and Pacino, and there is a big stink in that story about Westinghouse buying CBS. I saw that movie when it first came out and had completely spaced that monkeywrench subplot. But it did make me wonder what it must have been like when news and broadcasting agencies weren't owned by weapons contractors and multinational corporations. Were they no longer viable as independent entities when this trend began or was it just something that no one had considered in the past? It's amazing, absolutely amazing that it's legal.

13. So your saying if this was a Republican...
..the media should also ignore the story?

In the case of NY 26 Congressman Chris Lee, who was driven from office for something similar, the media should have ignored the whole thing too? We actually gained a Congressional seat out of that.

No, the media will always cover this sort of story. People are too interested in this stuff for them not to. If this were a Republican and the media were not covering it, DU would be HOWLING with outrage that a potential cover up was being ignored.

Sounds to me like Weiner isn't telling the whole truth. All he has to do is be honest, admit everything, and it will all work out. Voters in his district are not going to throw him out this.

Seriously, the only story here is that another character assassination attempt has been pulled by breitbart.

Rep Weiner has categorically stated that he never tweeted that pic to that woman. Period.

35. It depends ...

For those who are complaining about Weiner being picked on by the media, did you feel the same way when Rep. Lee sent a topless pic? Were there cries of "leave him alone"? Hell no!! I think that a lot of this is because Rep. Weiner is one of the most liked politicians on DU, so the threat that this could cause him to resign his seat like Rep. Lee had to is why people are in such an uproar. Do I think that's him? Maybe. It won't be the first politician (out of the state of NY) to do something like that ... this year. How he has handled this in the aftermath of the pic being released defies common sense. The fact that disturbs me the most is that he hasn't, as of yet, had the FBI start looking into the hacking issue yet. The FBI can force Twitter to give everything the FBI needs to solve this case pretty quickly. I mean, even Sarah Palin did it when her e-mail account was hacked. Perhaps someone told her to do it, but IIRC, it was done shortly after the breach was discovered.

37. The woman in question denies receiving the picture. Weiner denies sending it.
This is nothing like Lee, who was sending out photos of himself to arrange extramarital hook-ups.

The only scandals here are:

1) Has Breitbart been involved in illegal computer hacking and
2) Why was the media so willing to play along with another smear from a proven liar who is on record as saying his life's work is to destroy the institutional left?

The damn Cartoon Network will probably have a new series this fall, about a talking weiner!

This shit is insane.
4 freaking days of it!

Why can't the media just chase Palin in her bus and stay away from the stories about Weiner!?!
Why can't they talk about raising taxes instead of just making cuts?!

Most of the independents get their news from tv, cable programs, and such, so this nonsense has to stop!!

They covered that scandal for what? 5 minutes? Nobody ever talked about him wearing diapers when he had sex with prostitutes. No, they just mentioned his infidelity quickly and moved on. (They spent more time mocking her dress choice than going over the actual incident).

Tell me how impartial the MSM is when it comes to scandals because it seems ridiculously biased and one sided to me.
