Arizonans File To Recall Author Of Controversial Immigration Law
Jillian Rayfield | June 1, 2011, 10:22AM

A group of Arizonans filed a petition Tuesday to recall the state's Senate President Russell Pearce (R), who authored the state's controversial immigration law and has also dabbled in tentherism and birtherism.

Citizens For A Better Arizona, which describes itself as a "coalition of concerned citizens committed to improving the quality of life of all Arizonans," filed a petition with the Secretary of State Tuesday, saying they have 18,315 voter signatures supporting a recall of Pearce. The requirement is 7,756 signatures.

Pearce is perhaps best known for sponsoring the state's controversial immigration law, which was signed by Gov. Jan Brewer (R) last year. But he's also pushed legislation to let the state nullify federal laws at will, takes credit for coming up with the idea to detain illegal immigrants in tent cities, used infamously by Sheriff Joe Arpaio, and once joked that "the best thing about is that Obama may not be visiting Arizona because we actually require papers now."

4. Possible Pearce Recall: Who Will Be Arizona’s Next Top Hate-Monger?
http://hypervocal.com/news/2011/possible-pearce-recall-who-will-be-arizonas-next-top-hate-monger/

Tempers are running high in Arizona as a large group of citizens in Mesa campaign for a recall election of Arizona State President Russell Pearce. The group, “Citizens for a Better Arizona,” had 120 days to come up with 25 percent of the total votes cast for his seat on November 2nd. Since the total votes cast was approximately 31,091, the group needed to get 7,756 signatures for their petition. On Monday the group confirmed it will turn in a petition on time to start the process of a recall election for Pearce. If there are enough valid signatures on the petition, the recall election will occur in November.

According to The Arizona Republic: The organization cites Pearce’s sponsorship of Senate Bill 1070, his attack on the citizenship of babies born to undocumented parents and his co-sponsorship of SB 1201, which would allow guns in all government-run facilities, on university campuses and city buses.

Pearce seems to have a personal vendetta against the 14th Amendment, as evidenced by some of his greatest hits in political lawmaking. He was the main force behind Senate Bill 1070 in Arizona, which gives law-enforcement officers the right to question a person about their immigration status on a traffic stop, detainment or arrest if they have a suspicion that the suspect is an illegal immigrant. Officers can use poor English skills or even just acting nervous as cause.

Recently, Pearce has been behind a bill that would make sure that children born to illegal immigrant parents in the United States would not receive American citizenship. He protests these “anchor babies” that tie illegal immigrants to the United States.
