Sen. Rand Paul responds to accusation of supporting terrorists
Source: RawReplay
By Eric W. Dolan
Republican Senator Rand Paul (KY) said in a speech on the Senate floor Wednesday that questioning the constitutionality of the PATRIOT Act was not equivalent to supporting terrorists.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and Paul introduced an amendment to the PATRIOT Act on Monday that attempts to safeguard American’s civil liberties by increasing oversight of government surveillance powers.

“He’s fighting for an amendment to protect the right – not of average citizens, but of terrorists – to cover up their gun” purchases, Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) said on the Senate floor, according to the Los Angeles Times. “If he thinks that it’s going to be a badge of courage on his side to have held this up for a few hours, he’s made a mistake.”

1. There are facist control freaks everywhere...
in the Republican as well as the Democratic side..

This reminds me of a quote from Capt. Ian Fishback.

"The most important question that this generation will answer. Do we sacrifice our ideals in order to preserve security? Terrorism inspires fear and suppresses ideals like freedom and individual rights. Overcoming the fear posed by terrorist threats is a tremendous test of our courage. Will we confront danger and adversity in order to preserve our ideals, or will our courage and commitment to individual rights wither at the prospect of sacrifice? My response is simple. If we abandon our ideals in the face of adversity and aggression, then those ideals were never really in our possession. I would rather die fighting than give up even the smallest part of the idea that is "America."

8. For those defending Paul on this watch the video, read the ammendments..
..Paul is NOT trying to revoke the Patriot Act, he's in favor of extending it WITH the provision to shield gun records. This is not about civil liberties. It's more NRA crap.

11. No, him and Mike Lee are the only puke Senators who want a full repeal
He does not want to extend it, but he does not have the votes. So now he's trying a partial repeal. Believe me, I know all there is to know about Rand and his father, and they both despise the un-Patriot Act.

3. Well it is the right thing to do to remove the patriot act.
Since it is about spying on citizens in secret, and that is not being used for better results.

I would say the people that go against citizens rights, and I do not mean Ancient Rome aristocracy as the only Citizens... People that go against citizens rights, are the terrorist.

Badge of courage? Pretty good book, but not needed, I am however due beer and travel money and many experiences.

I do love his tie in with the lion in wizard of oz with that comment, hint, the courage always was in his heart, he did not need no badge, the badge was saying it was already there, that is not like the Red badge of Courage story, or maybe it is.

The badge is so that others see what was already, and always has been there.

9. What, exactly, is Rand right about?
If you read more @ this little tussle he's having w/Reid, he's NOT trying to block the Patriot Act. This is @ the nra - to quote an above poster:

..Paul is NOT trying to revoke the Patriot Act, he's in favor of extending it WITH the provision to shield gun records. This is not about civil liberties. It's more NRA crap.

10. That's an outright lie
Paul (and his father for years) want an outright repeal of the PA. Rand was just trying to add this amendment because a partial repeal is better than no repeal. However, he would scrap it entirely if he could.

12. His words speak for themselves ...
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/05/25/tempers-flare-on-senate-floor/

snip/
"They are petrified to vote on issues of guns because they know that a lot of people in America favor the Second Amendment to own guns and want to protect it," Paul said, adding that he wanted to prevent the warrantless access to some gun records because "we don't want our records to be sifted through by a government without judicial review."

But go ahead & cheer the little shit (& his bigshit father) on - your rope.
