House GOP Not Sure About Helping Victims of Horrific Twister in Missouri
Washington Monthly, via AlterNet:

House GOP Not Sure About Helping Victims of Horrific Twister in Missouri

The scenes out of Joplin, Missouri, are just horrific. The death toll from the deadliest single U.S. twister in generations stands at least 116 people, and rescue workers continue a frantic search for survivors. President Obama will be in the area over the weekend, and obviously the area qualifies for federal disaster relief.

It’s hard to believe, but House Republicans aren’t sure if they’re prepared to spend the money to assist the victims and community.

The No. 2 House Republican said that if Congress doles out additional money to assist in the aftermath of natural disasters across the country, the spending may need to be offset.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said “if there is support for a supplemental, it would be accompanied by support for having pay-fors to that supplemental.”

Finding ways to offset disaster relief funds could be a significant challenge for House Republicans and would put their promise to cut spending to a true test.

I don’t expect much from House Republicans, but this has managed to actually surprise me. When disaster strikes and there are deadly consequences, federal officials are expected to put aside politics and ideology, and commit whatever’s necessary to help. ..........(more)

1. This is of course because this disaster did not hit
The district of the Esteemed Mr. Cantor. Had it done so, I am sure there would be calls for all sorts of Federal support.

There is a special place for people like this and Dante comes to mind.

17. But Missouri will be a state in play in 2012.
Now the folks in southwest MO may be a little pissed at the GOP.

whom you're 25 times less likely to be attacked by than being hit by a tornado or bolt of lightning.

8. Wonder how Joplin's rep feels about that?
To absolutely no one's surprise, Joplin and the rest of MO07 are represented (?) by Billy Long (R). Will Mr. Long say 'Boo' to Mr. Cantor?

It would be hard for Mr. Long to say 'Boo' at the same time that his mouth is kissing Cantor's ass!

28. That would be him.
I sent an email and wrote a letter to my rep, Vicky Hartzler, asking her how she feels about aid to Joplin, to flooded areas, etc. It'll be quite interesting to see if I get any response to it, considering her facebook page shows that she "likes" Cantor and is big into the overall ass-kissing.

Did I mention that I also stated in both the letter and the email that I plan on passing on the answer she gives to all of my family, friends, coworkers, and the local newspaper? Yeah, I did. I'm that kind of person.

31. My rep (MO 4th district)
is a nasty woman. I'm betting I hear absolutely no comment back from here.

Then again, maybe she'll take a page out of Jim Talent's page and send me a letter, to my home address, stating that she only speaks to constituents and is sorry she cannot answer me. Of course, I was one of his constituents at the time.

I usually try to understand where the other person is coming from. In this case-fuck you Eric Cantor! I'll pray for your soul because its blackness needs prayers.

Just sent to a Republican friend and he's disgusted.

Campaign office incident

After the passage of the health care reform bill in March 2010, Cantor reported that somebody had shot a bullet through a window of his campaign office in Richmond, Virginia. A spokesman for the Richmond Police later stated that the bullet was not intentionally fired at Cantor's office, saying that it was instead random gunfire, as there were no signs outside the office identifying the office as being Cantor's.A preliminary investigation indicated that the bullet was fired into the air and hit the office window going down. The bullet landed within a foot of the window.<16> Cantor responded to this by saying that Democratic leaders in the House should stop "dangerously fanning the flames" by blaming Republicans for threats against House Democrats who voted for the health care legislation.

Cantor also reported that he had received threatening e-mails related to the passage of the bill, but he declined to hand over copies of the e-mails, saying that doing so would encourage similar activity.

32. I don't
want to give pigs a bad name....and I certainly don't want 'little girls' to be demeaned.

It's that Patriarchy trap....the worst thing you can call a 'man' is a 'girl' or something 'feminine.'

I'll just refer to him as a Waste of Human Flesh.

19. Its really true, all Republcians care about, are themselves..
They did not go to Washington to help their districts or the people they represent, they went to Washington because their egos demand that they are better then everyone else, and can sit back and rake in the cash. Totally corrupt doesn't cover it.

Funny how Cantor didn't say boo about his state getting $28,000,000.00 for emergency snow removal in 2010.
