Focus on the Family: Same sex marriage fight lost
The Raw Story: Eric W. Dolan

Focus on the Family CEO: We ‘probably lost’ fight against same sex marriage

Jim Daly, president and CEO of Focus on the Family, admitted his Christian conservative organization has little chance of turning public opinion against legal same sex marriages.

In an interview with the Christian magazine WORLD, Daly said Focus on the Family was "losing" the fight against same sex marriage, noting that 65 to 70 percent of the 20- and 30-somethings favor marriage equality.

"I don't know if that's going to change with a little more age—demographers would say probably not," he said. "We've probably lost that. I don't want to be extremist here, but I think we need to start calculating where we are in the culture."

Daly suggested that God may be "handing us over to this polygamy and same-sex situation in order to" force Christians to re-examine their own marriages.

It appears it may be time for Christians to select a new boogeyman. I predict they will choose the Muslim community to help feed the po-box.

5. cuz the anti-gay people never produced a real compelling reason why SSM is bad for society
and the places that do allow for SSM did NOT devolve contrary to the doomdsay predictions of the religious WRONG

and the religious right made complete knuckleheads of themselves in the Prop 8 federal court case, that's why they lost

7. "Where we are in the culture"???
I'll tell you where you are, you freak. You are the scourge of this country, whipping up the ignorant to vote against their own best interests because of hate. You are on the way out. You've lost. GO AWAY.

8. looks like they're doubling down on second-class citizenship for women
what with all the attempts to deny them medical care.

as far as I'm concerned, the religious right is nothing but a hate group.

9. They will probably escalate their war on women
Using more of their resources to take away women's right to choice and to control their own bodies, making sure a government representative will be in every doctor's office ready to get between a woman and her doctor.

10. Yeah, polygamy, which is totally non-Judeo/Christian
in any way shape or form at all. Hasn't he read his own book?

What a tool.

13. LOLOL. Abraham and his concubine - Solomon's 500 wives...
the reality is simply that these folks are too fucking stupid to have any say in our national life.

they DO NOT DESERVE the attention they get or power they wield.

they are parasites who feast on the rights of others and pretend they're somehow godly for doing so.

16. It would be nice to think this was true
but we have a string of losses this year with no victory. We lost in Maryland and Rhode Island both of which we thought we would win. We lost in Minnesota. we are fixing to lose in NC. NY is also looking bleak. So how are we winning this again? Oh, and don't forget. We have won exactly 0 times when our marriage rights have gone to the ballot.

19. What they aren't saying is that there are more 50+ folks against it
Those are who are voting against it, people who haven't caught up with the times. As the baby boomers start dying off, I think we'll see these numbers increasing (those in favor of equality) and we'll see those states banning it overturning those laws.

I was talking to my roommate whom works at HRC and he was telling me that Prop 8 was worded so poorly that there were a lot of people who thought they were voting against it that actually voted for it. I wouldn't be surprised if that didn't happen more often. It's really a shame that these questions aren't simple yes or no questions on the ballot. "Do you oppose same-sex marriage: yes or no" but instead they couch it in a way that makes it seem that you're confused by how to vote.

21. They are looking at the long term outlook
The demographics show that it's inevitable. In the short term there might be losses, but it's inevitable.
