2. You and me both, pal.
I watched the mountain blow from my porch in Seattle.
We honestly thought the ash would blow up to us, at the time had no idea where it might go, or how long/often the Mt. would blow, and there were well founded fears that Mt. Rainier and Mt. Baker ( near Bellingham) would blow too, as Rainer was steaming.

Seems like just the other day.........

3. Believe it or not -
I was working at the USGS in Menlo Park when that happened. Talk about being in the right place -- it was an extraordinary time. That place was on fire.

4. Never forget that day
I remember that day as if it were yesterday and its hard to believe that was 30 yrs ago. I was up visiting friends out in Forks, WA on the very tip of the Olympic Peninsula. At the moment of the big eruption, we heard & felt a series of explosions which sounded like someone using dynamite only it was actually Mt. St. Helens blowing its top. On the way home, we drove down Hwy 101 to Grays Harbor & Aberdeen and you clearly saw the mountain and the enormous ash cloud rising up and blowing towards Eastern Washington. Needless to say the roads were jammed with traffic and it was a slow ride home, but what an awesome display by Mother Nature. It was a once in a lifetime event (I hope).

5. National Geographic had the coolest article on MSH at the time. I was fascinated
with the whole story as a tween.
