My hubby is about to walk in the door!!

The dog will go crazy when she hears the key in the lock. She will jump up and down, wag her tail whimper a little bit (he likes to tease the dog so he takes foreeeeeever to open the door). The cats also come running so there is a whole line of pets waiting to say hello. He'll force his way in, jumping through pets, trying not to let the cats out. I just kind of sit back and wait a minute until they are done mauling him. It's pretty funny to watch. After they are all settled I'll follow him into the kitchen while he washes his hands (As a joke I usually tell him, "Don't even think about touching me with those bus hands!") Then we kiss hello, we talk about making tea or coffee, what's for dinner, glass of wine? juice? He'll go change while I start dinner.

I'll try to figure out a way to make vegetables appealing and today we're having tofu kielbasa thingies he picked out at the store. Since he doesn't cook he will pick these odd things I have no idea what to do with. I accept blame since I tricked him into going grocery shopping at the organic grocery...the old "we don't have anything sweet to eat...this place has a good bakery" always works. He thought he was getting a donut...I made him go pick out some dinner choices. Tofu kielbasas (he'd eat sausage every day if I'd let him) and broccoli. He will only eat broccoli and asparagus. As a kid he would sit at the table for hours if his mother tried to get him to eat anything but those two vegetables. He will eat fried potatoes and his favorite vegetable is now an onion. I will bet a good chunk of people reading this will nod their heads because they too have somehow become the family cook and know how hard a job it is!

We'll sit in front of the tv and eat dinner, talk about our day, play with the pets. I might tickle him a little because he hates it but I can't help it. We'll watch Antiques Roadshow because I like it and he can't find anything he actually likes, so I win. Then he'll surf around or pull up a Tosh.O show or we'll catch up on 30 Rock. A dog walk. We'll talk each other into putting the dishes off until tomorrow. Read on the couch or surf the web, both probably. He is reading ancient greek translations, I am halfway through a very dry book about this ancient egyptian city that dumped all its papyrus in a dump where it was preserved until being discovered last century. Mostly shopping lists and deeds and marriage contracts...that everyday stuff is everywhere...but also pages of greek poetry and literature. They have found works that had been completely lost to time. Then it will be time to start getting ready for bed.

That's pretty much it. That's what us married gay couples do in the evening. Just thought I'd share it.

I had kinda high expectations of how I thought things should be...and then my hubby asked me on a date. I was skeptical but he totally charmed me. A month or two into things he said, "i'd be more surprised if we didn't get married than if we did". We're working on four years and we've yet to even raise our voices to each other. (though he does get a little testy about the tickling sometimes) We've never had a fight.

I am a very lucky fellow. I only have one regret (but it is a doozie). He asked me out ten years prior to our first date and I laughed at him because I thought he was waaaaaay to young for me. Ten years later he got up the nerve to ask me again and we've been pretty inseparable ever since.

He sends me postcards several times a week so he can greet me when I get home from work. :0)

7. I can always count

on the dogs. We run a shelter of sorts out of the home. We are near a hunting area, and the folks from up north bring the beagles and when they are unfit or unneeded, they are let loose to roam - hungry and injured. We take them in, and keep them from the SPSA, at times which is hasty in putting them down. They are always happy to hear me pull up, and greet me - old and new, at the door. Just sayin.... Wife on the other hand.... HAHA... Sometimes she is waiting for me. Sometimes I am waiting for her.

When he and I were first dating I was singing in a choir and both he and my mom were going to go to a concert. He is very shy, my mom is hilarious and has no boundaries. So...only six weeks or so after we started dating he and my mom met up outside the concert hall, without me there, and they spent the next two hours hanging out. I had left each of them a card on their seats--the one to mike was warning him about my mom--my mom's told was telling her to behave--I gave them conversation starters for each other (funny ones to break the ice) so they sat there and laughed (I was watching from behind a curtain) and they just hit it off.

By the time the concert was over and I met up with them, they were old friends and I had completely got to skip the whole ordeal of introducing them and having to lead the conversation all night.

The next time my mom saw him they hugged and chatted and my mom gave him an amazing quilt.

Companionship and friendship is far more important I believe. Attraction gets all muddled in love feelings and attraction gets mixed up with feelings. Have someone you are attracted to melt you with a kiss right off that bat. Meet your perfect mate and many times the most important things are thrown aside because it is awkward.... It's a city called Oxyrhynchus. Apparently there was either a canal or a side branch of the Nile that flowed through town in antiquity but later silted up or the sand moved in. Their garbage dump, now a big sandbox, preserved a lot of stuff.

In terms of the actual writings they've found (although they found some texts that everyone thought were lost to time), the shopping lists, contracts, horoscopes, etc., are kinda interesting. They provide a peek into ordinary people's ordinary lives during the Hellenistic and Roman eras in ways that we have no way of knowing in other parts of these empires.

It's pretty cool, but I don't think much has been written about it for the general public - I think a lot of what's discovered can only get published in academic journals....

Man, I wished my marriage was like that. When grumpy (kidding) gets home, sometimes he just needs to argue for the sake of arguing. We've been married for 4.5 yrs now and we're starting to learn enough about each other that we can recognize a bad mood or hurt feelings quicker in order to stop the bickering. If it's hot and humid, I know to look for snappy sarcastic comebacks and make concessions to accommodate his intolerance of heat and humidity. When I've been stressed about events coming up, he knows to offer some kind support to ease my pain.

I don't know why we don't argue. I snapped at him once and he had this hurt look on his face that I hadn't seen before...and I HATED that I put that look in his face. He's just so sweet and mellow but if something is bothering him he just wants to share it and it is done. All calm and nicely done.

Mr. Yankeepants and I had (his)fresh caught perch and fresh picked asparagas for din din and I heard my dead father say "What are the poor people doing tonight?" It was something he said when we were having the best meal off the land. We were the po' folk but eating like that made us feel rich.
