The new superintendent of schools taken over by the state through the Recovery School District will get an annual pay package of nearly $281,000, under a three-year contract announced by the state education department.
The agreement for John White includes a $225,000 salary, $21,600 car allowance, up to $30,000 for housing and $4,000 for life insurance or other retirement planning.
White, 35, was deputy superintendent for the New York City school system before being hired to lead the RSD.
The housing allowance is guaranteed for six months and could be extended another six months, so White's pay package could total $280,600 initially and then drop to $250,600 after one year.
