REPORT: Sen. Tom Coburn Actively Negotiated Multi-Million Dollar Hush Money Package For Ensigns Mistress

After a 22-month investigation, the Senate Ethics Committee released a report on the conduct of Sen. John Ensign (R-NV), who resigned early this month. The report contains voluminous evidence suggesting Ensign may have violated several laws in an effort to cover up an affair with a member of his staff. The committee has referred the matter to the Department of Justice.

Contained in the 67-page report, however, is troubling evidence of the central role that current Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) played in trying to keep Ensigns mistress and her husband quiet evidence that contradicts Coburns previous public statements on the matter.

In July 2009, Coburn said he was consulting with Ensign as a physician and as an ordained deacon and he considered it a privileged communication that I will never reveal to anybody. Asked about the claim from Doug Hampton, the husband of Ensigns mistress, that he urged Ensign to pay the Hamptons millions of dollars, Coburn said, I categorically deny everything he said.

....................

Coburn eventually agreed to cooperate with the Ethics Committee; their findings on the level of his involvement are startling. According to the committees report, Coburn actively assisted in the discussions of a hush money package, negotiating a proposed package from $8 million down to $2.8 million. The ethics committee report, on pages 37 to 38, describes the negotiation between Mr. Albregts, an attorney for the husband of Ensigns mistress, and Sen. Coburn:

19. There's no privilege once other people know about it, even assuming there was ever a privilege.

This was not just between Coburn and Ensign. The blackmailers knew Ensign told Coburn.

12. Because here in Oklahoma, he's worshipped...
...and Oklahomans don't give a shit. They think he's being persecuted by the left and he'll win his seat again. Just like Sally Kern.

13. We're talking about a state who elected a governor who fucked her state trooper guard...
...and still has a political career. She won by a 1% margin, but of course, EVERYONE loves her and pretends she is a queen. I hate Mary Fallin. IF she's talking, she's lying. And no one brought anything up during the election. This state is ridiculous, and I am getting more and more set on moving to Germany.

17. they impeached Clinton for lying under oath on a lawsuit
...... that was brought up by Jennifer Flowers and paid for by right wingers such as Richard Mellon Scaife.

Now a few years later when W & company told non stop lies to start an unneeded war in Iraq the same people
who were so worried about the truth, bill clinton, and a blow job were very silent.

23. Genifer Flowers sued Clinton? In addition to Paula Jones?
Edited on Fri May-13-11 11:41 AM by No Elephants
I thought Clinton supposedly lied under oath to the special prosecutor?

(In the Jones lawsuit, per agreement between her attorneys and his, which was approved by the judge, "sexual relations" was a defined term and the the definition did not include bjs.)
