Ensign/Coburn -Did DUers hear Andrea Mitchell saying Rachel
was all over the Ensign/Family scandal.
She will be on Morning Joe Scum later today. I hope that bastard ends up in prison and I hope Mr. Family Values, Tom Coburn pays big time for the cover-up.

2. as long as Mrs. Greenspan does not comment on economic matters

I can tolerate her, but she always seems to work in some defense of her husband's policies.

I think it is ridiculous that she is still allowed to make those types of comments when it is impossible for anyone to be objective about the damage done by their spouse.

I think I will just keep watching Rachel and leave the peanut gallery out of it.

6. No kidding!
I can't stand his complete and utter stupidity, either. He's high on my Top Ten of the "most despicable" in the Senate.

5. It Pays To Have Friends In High Places...
The problem with an "internal" probe like this is that its usually only the target who gets the attention. Other than Rachel, I don't think there was anyone else in the corporate media who reported about Coburn and his C Street "bretheren". Since he wasn't the target, it looks like he will get a pass...maybe a slap on the wrists and that's all.

From Rachel's excellent reporting Coburn should be held as an accomplice if a crime is prosecuted as he was the "bag man"...negotiating the price of the "severence" and then covering up both the scandal and his own involvement. Sadly there's no way the Senate will go after one of their own unless its so over-the-top and then members are protected as Senators care more about the reputation of their "body" than to expel two members of the same party. Sadly I think that also applies to the Justice Department...

7. "It isn't the crime, it's the cover up"
Don't Coburn's actions that arrange payment qualify him as a pimp?

8. Worse...
A pimp only arranges the hook-up not the damage control. He doesn't pay off the hooker to keep quiet. By dealing with the "financial" matters here, Colburn is more like racketeering. Who knows what promises he got in return from Ensign for his "help" (I'd sure like to see that investigated).

20. Gee, wasn't it nice of the Department of Justice to drop its investigation back in December?
Sorry for the link to Politico, but everyone seemed really happy not too long ago that this was going to go away without any criminal investigation:

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1210/45815.html

What's a little extra-marital boinking, bribery and corruption, anyway? Shoot, if you start criminalizing criminal acts, you're going to run all the criminals out of government! And then where would we be? AG Holder tried his best to let this die quietly, I'm sure.

21. Ensign and Coburn = the anti equality hypocrites
Straight Marriages are as Sanctified as Ensign and Coburn show them to be. Negotiation of pay for sexual services, to cover adultery, there are words for what these men did, these men who preach hate against others on the basis that they are the picture of God's will.
Marriage is a sacrament and this is how straights treat sacraments. Coburn lied using his status as an 'ordained deacon' to cover up his impropriety. Lying scum.

23. They were stupid to write a $96,000 check.
They should have done it the old fashioned way: Cash under the table in brown paper bags!!

That's what John Connally did back in the day for Lyndon Johnson.

He was allegedly Lyndon Johnson's "bag man".

26. that's some strange reading
I cannot really understand what any of those people are doing, or why. How is it that the Hamptons and the Ensigns are still married? Why did Ensign seemingly become so obsessed with Mrs. Hampton? Then again, that is just her side of the story. What would he say about the affair?

Granted, I don't like this guy's politics and he seems to come from a wealthy family, but I sorta feel sorry for the guy. Apparently, he has/had a very unhappy personal life, and it cannot be any better now. Does his rich dad see him as a failure?

And Hampton has now been indicted? What a mess.

28. That's kinda hard to believe
and why should I want to see that? When you wrote "Johnny boy" it made me think of John Edwards, who I once supported and some say may end up in prison, again, because of sex. That, at least, was kinda understandable.

Too bad there is so much discussion of this, and much less attention paid to any policy issues. Americans can get informed of the details of this soap opera and remain ignorant of social security and the budget.

Well, as Douglas Adams wrote, the purpose of the President (or Senator) is not to wield power, but to draw attention away from it.
