On another nostalgic note, what have you gained/learned
from your participation on DU? What was the highlight of your time here?

1. Gained: a warm, close relationship with a truly great person.
Learned: people are really pretty weird.

Highlight: the various epic Lounge wars over the years (see 'Learned' above).

3. Let's see
I think the true craziness started with Fat Actress. Remember that one? And who would have thought Olive Garden could provoke so much debate?

4. Let's see.. fat actress, fried chicken, Laura Branigan, Olive Garden,
I could go on but you get the picture. It's amazing what people will argue about.

There have been some insane discussions in GD, too, the most memorable for me being the Terry Schiavo situation. That went on for WEEKS and I don't think there was a single DUer who didn't weigh in at some point. And of course that gave us the memorable 'Jesus Christ on a trailer hitch', so that worked out okay.

2. Meeting many amazing and cool people
I can't think of anything on-site that stands out, though.

7. Yep
I don't hang out in the Lounge anymore, but I'm friends with all of my favorite people, several who gave up on DU awhile ago, over on FB. If your relationship transcends DU, it's worth keeping.

My highlight?

Still being allowed to be here.

And the Philly MeetUp at Dave & Buster's...waaaay back when.

Epic.

8. learned that the fastest way to glance at headllines & keep current is LBN
that getting a DU author to give a talk in Bloomington can lead to a gathering creating friendships (and more), that someone was reading the post 911 prewar articles we were copying and handing out at the local farmer's market (I read about someone receiving and reading one of the articles), and that folks (myself included) can get pretty heated in an on-line discussion.
