And it is very important.

Because if they cannot convince the American people they are equally responsible, they lose their mantle of superiority on national defense. They lose their connections to the billions of dollars in military contracts. They lose control of the issue.

That is why Republicans are so aggressively pursuing Democrats to get them to say that "enhanced interrogation" (torture) played a big part in the killing of Usama Bin Laden. And they have come close to getting a couple of Democrats to admit it.

Republicans have a lot to lose. They lose not only their credibility on national defense matters, they also lose their entire rationale for their invasion of Iraq and all the losses from that disastrous decision.

It is of utmost importance that the Democrats do not give them the credit they so desire and covet.

I have a real hard time believing in the tinfoil hat theories going around about OBL's alleged "non-death"...or his death years ago.

Had he died years ago...perhaps at the end of the W era, sure as hell they would have snapped him up.

If he's not dead now, someone is going to slip up and it will all come crashing down. I bet the Republicans would love nothing better than to show Democrats up for being huge LIARS if OBL were to be found still alive someplace. Leaks happen. I, for one, would not want to responsible for putting out a story to the world that turned out to be false.

Anyway, these thoughts about why the Republicans NEED credit for OBL's death certainly make sense...
