Retired, dying cop says granddaughter 'scammed' him

RICHMOND HEIGHTS -- Former Cleveland police officer Leo Hayes says he was wiped out financially by his own granddaughter.

Adrienne Dye and her husband, Frank Dye, have been charged with 16 criminal counts that include: engaging in a pattern of corupt activity, money laundering, forgery and theft.

Hayes, who is dying of lung cancer, says the couple ripped him off for more than $200,000. He says he allowed the couple to move in with him so they could save for a house of their own.

----------------------------

Mason says the couple opened up credit cards in the former cop's name and ran up bills everywhere. He says they opened a home equity line of credit and bought an expensive SUV.

Adrienne Dye is a teacher at the Cornerstone Christian Academy in Willoughby. When the Investigator Tom Meyer tried to talk with her about the case, she had no comment.

1. This is unfortunately more common than people realize
Blood is thicker than water, but greed is thicker than blood. If you have an elderly or infirm relative, and you suspect another relative of taking advantage of them, trust your instinct. You're probably right.

4. Figures it would be a teacher at a "Christian" school.
She probably thinks God's ok with this because she was "saved".

(note...the above isn't an anti-Christian comment...it's an anti-"Christian" comment...most actual Christians would bitch-slap that woman.)

11. Maybe if she was a unionized teacher at a public school
She might not have felt the "need" to do this... She would have a decent paying job with benefits and a retirement. Might have even got to save up for here own home herself.

These private religious schools don't pay squat.... But she probably voted the anti union big R. Oh well.

Just sayin'

On the other she cow.ld always have been scum no matter. But maybe just maybe a union job would have removed temptation.

10. If he's dying, why does he give a fuck?
Not to suggest that these criminals' behavior is in any way acceptable, but seriously, you can't take it with you, so why would you care?

13. Did you read the article?
Hayes fears he'll lose his house, now that he's had to file for bankruptcy. "It's the only house I've ever had," he said.

14. Because of the deep feelings of betrayal.
Are you saying that old people SHOULDN'T have the right to expect their own families to not rip them off?
