The Ryan Mandate - could someone explain this to me

regarding this thread:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x1027621

Will this eliminate employer based health care? Or will employer provided health care benefits be taxed? Or will it be the employers choice to provide benefits and get a voucher, or not provide benefits and the employees get a voucher...

Can someone explain it to me like I am a fifth grader? Sorry to be stupid, but I really want to have some sort of understanding before I start running my mouth at the teabaggers. The Ryan Mandate. I can convinced that the mandate was the #1 reason we did so poorly in the midterms.

The slate article was probably well written to those that can decipher policy talk and issues, but after a 10 hour workday, I guess I need some handholding.

If I am out of line or asking too much, just let this thread sink.

1. Let me take a stab at this. And I am not sure I know what I am talking about.
This is what I have heard about it. It seems to me that any health insurance that your employer is paying for will be added to your income from that company. The point is that it will not be an advantage anymore to have employer based insurance, since your income will be increased by that amount. And since you are stuck with whatever policy your employer chooses, it would be to your advantage to shop around for your own policy. The factor that I have not heard explained is whether you would get a raise of $xxx in your pay if you do not use their insurance. I am not sure how this will work. And at this point in time, I am not sure they know either.

3. Actually, from what I have read about this, there is no reason
to worry or think much about it. It has no chance of passing.

The thing that seems interesting and would be the argument to a freeper would be that it is the same "mandate" that they are fussing over in "Obamacare". These people are friggin' nuts.
