Minus the national allegiances, are these pictures so different?

Both see a terrible enemy dead and are celebrating the fact.

So what is the difference?

1. Damn it, if only you had been there to tell those New Yorkers the CORRECT way to react to things.
:sarcasm:

6. Home made props vs store bought props?
More hats?

One is "them" while the other is "us"?

8. The Blackwater contractors in Fallujah on the specific scale...
The deaths of Americans on the broader scale.

The death of imperialistic oppressors on the broadest symbolic scale.

Then it would seem no different.

On edit: The difference is the way the bodies were treated. Did I win?

16. So, if they weren't so different, that would be bad?
There seems to be a strong submerged assumption that some kind of badness is immanent in acknowledging similarity and that all you have to do is to get everyone to admit that there is similarity and then we will all be embarrassed and then I don't what -- death to America? or do you have something else in mind?

20. I made no moral judgments in my OP, so you must be reading into it.
Mob behavior, whether classified as good or bad, is mob behavior.

You can either recognize that the Iraquis in Fallujah were doing nothing wrong in charring and stringing up corpses or you can recognize it as wrong. Up to you.

However, admitting the pictures are the same demands consistency and also may bring people closer to recognizing the humanity of other people and the validity of their perspectives.

Yeah. No implied moral judgments being passed in anything you say. Got it. (wink)

22. Are you denying the existence of crowd psychology?
Or do you think that if you can paint me as judgmental that you will be able to derail a perfectly valid discussion?

24. For starters, we did not dismember and mutilate bodies.
Or hack them to death and then display them on a bridge.

The graphic and disturbing images are offensive.

Locking.
