This article is so bad it's a riot: Roll Back the Hippie Damage
We have seen the hippie damage, and we hate it. Conservative America has been witness to the cultural damage and decay perpetrated on it by the left since the 1960s. We have stood back with jaw agape at the horrifying images of the American family disintegrating and drug use soaring, while the liberals nod approvingly, and call it "progress." This is astonishing.

Without further investigation into their motives, you would think that they are simply trying to destroy our culture simply because they are hateful. It makes one wonder. Who, in their right mind would consider rising drug use and overdoses "progress?" Who, in their right mind would consider an epidemic of broken homes "progress?" What woman in her right mind would consider the over-sexualization of females a good thing?

Like all of the leftist movements of the past, the American left are trying to force unnatural things on people, with the idea that they are creating a "new man." They think that it will just take time for little kids to get used to the idea of broken homes. A home where they don't have a "real daddy." A home where the absence of their real father (or mother) is a constant reminder of the fact that their missing parent didn't care enough to stick around. A reminder that their parents aren‘t really in love. They think it will just take time for us to adjust to being open about drug use. Never mind the fact that drug overdoses are skyrocketing into epidemic territory, and people's attitudes toward drugs are still continuing to soften and liberalize.

If leftist America is a construction worker, they show up at a worksite and smash their thumb with every swing of the hammer, and call it progress. Their swollen, red thumb would simply be the growing pains associated with "social justice" and "equality." Unfortunately, their philosophy is not nearly so rational as they want us to think, and not nearly so rational as liberal academia wants us to think. Unfortunately, liberal academia often times serves as a quasi-scientific rationalization of things that liberals feel like doing anyways. The liberals do what they feel, destroy our culture, and academia steps in to explain it away. Note academia's studies legitimizing gay marriage, and the legalization of drugs.

27. Correct. Just look at the Republican politicians and ministers...
who have been charged with crimes involving money and sex...not to mention those who got off without punishment. (pun intended)

Granted, there are Dems who have also been charged, but nothing like the Republicans and teabaggers.

5. Oh sure
Okay the whole rant was ridiculous but when he used Michael Savage as a source I knew the writer was officially brain dead. I also really liked how the writer rails against the '60's when it was pointed out he was a kid in the 1980's. Which obviously means he didn't live through the '60's and his only 'appreciation' of the 60's is probably through a rightwing looking glass. Finally what does he mean a revolution of yelling, screaming conservatives in 2011 those people have been screaming, yelling, crying and whining for as long as I can remember and I 'was' a kid in the 1960's.

7. My favorite part is the last paragraph, in which the author issues a loud call for ....loudness
Edited on Sat Jan-01-11 08:08 AM by Ken Burch
"As a conservative, I can say with 1000% certainty that this is not what I want my America to be. This is why I am raging in favor of a conservative revolution in 2011, and I'm convinced that it will happen. I need conservatives to be loud, though-I need your help. I need for everyone speak up as loudly as they can-in public, on the internet-everywhere. Our voices will rise, and we will yell so loudly, that everyone will hear us-politicians, the press, academia-everyone. We will speak so loudly that it will be impossible to ignore, and this country will be ours again."

I'm guessing that this kid(at one point, the author mentions having been "a child in the Eighties") gets evicted from a lot of apartments for blasting his stereo at 3am.

(side note...what makes the whole thing better is that there's a link on that page that tells the reader "You Can Get More For Your PFD"-I.E., your Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend, a GOVERNMENT CHECK every Alaska resident gets every year JUST FOR LIVING IN ALASKA. There's individual enterprise and self-sufficiency for you.)

10. Here's another good one
The writer mentions 'The Brady Bunch' as an example of a 'good' America. I did a little quick research and found two interesting tidbits about the Brady Bunch. Sherwood Schwartz conceived of the idea, or at least it was part of his thought process, because he had read 40% of marriages in the mid-1960's contained children from previous marriages. Since the show started filming in 1968 it sure sounds like there were divorces happening prior to the big effects of the 'liberal 60s' setting in. Also, Schwartz originally wanted Carol Brady to be a divorcee but in a compromise with the network they decided to never really explain Carol's past. Since they did point out Mike Brady was a widower we could surmise that was not the case for Carol. So either she was divorced or had three children out of wedlock. I guess Carol's kids could have been adopted out of wedlock but still not the ideal conservative family the writer seemed to think they were.

This doesn't even address the writers apparent assertion that the 'War on Drugs' is a good thing and highly successful or an apparent view that 'drug use' was not a problem until the dope smoking Hippies came along. I also don't see the connection between 'hippie liberals' and the objectifying of women in advertising and entertainment. Being open about sex and sexuality (which I see as a liberal point of view) does not lead to 'objectifying' of women if anything I would think it would be against just that.

17. There were a couple of "Brady Bunch" movies out...
In one of them, "A Very Brady Sequel", this takes place...

Carol's first husband, Roy, who was thought to be lost at sea, rings the doorbell one day and claims to be very much alive. ``You look so different,'' Carol muses. ``An elephant stepped on my face in Kuala Lumpur,'' he explains.

Mike Brady, the current husband, is a good sport. ``We Bradys are known for our hospitality,'' he says, giving Roy the sofa-bed in his den. What we know and the Bradys don't is that Roy (Tim Matheson) is an impostor--a smuggler who killed the real Roy and is trying to get his hands on the priceless Thai sculpture that adorns the Brady living room.

OK, so it's not "Masterpiece Theatre", but I still thought it was amusing, with lots of inside jokes and stuff

to the dubiously innocent and Hollywood fantasy-world "family values" of 1950s/1960s sitcoms, he omitted 'Father Knows Best' in which, in real life, Father turned out to have a serious problem with alcohol, Bud an equally serious hankering for pot and "Kitten" ended up a hooker before she found the Lord and was born again.

18. the fifties sound
Fifties Sound
(Kristin Lems)
January 15, 2005
words and music by Kristin Lems c 2005 Kleine Ding Music (BMI)

There was a very strong 50's influence in my life at the time I wrote this -- the song is best performed in costume, with props!

They say the fifties are comin again!
Get out my bobby socks and run to the gym!
The fifties band has got them out on the floor -
Hey wait! I been through this nightmare before!

Those olden days were not so golden you know
Girls who got in trouble, they had nowhere to go
Couldn't take their lives into their own hands
Spent their time a swoonin over rock n roll bands

In those days colored people knew their place
Didn't try to barge into the human race
But Elvis and the others picked up all their cues
And made a million dollars singing white boy blues

Whoa Whoa - whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa
They're dancing to what oppressed us 20 years ago.

Girls wore thick makeup, boys wore thick grease
If you didn't have a steady, you were never at east
Swearin and sex, they were mortal sins -
Why the hell you think we brought the sixties in?

Everybody looked and thought and talked the same
And learned all of the details of the dating game
Boys, they were lettermen or else they were queer
If they were small or shy they lived in constant fear

Think of all the folks who miss the fifties sound
The millionaires whose profits have been going down
For the ku klux klan, those were the good ole' days
And back then, women really knew their place

Administrators missed the days when students obeyed
Didn't meddle in the world the grownups had made
The Pentagon's nostalgic for the days of yore
When every kid would rush to join their latest war!

So all you kids soakin up the scene
Sorry to break in on your American dream
But we lived through it and it ain't no fun:
No one's gonna take back what we won!

Teen angel, teen angel, rest in pieces!

24. I lived through it and you are absolutely correct. In my life there was
one other thing. As the daughter of one of those farmers who went broke when big agra started changing the world I almost starved to death. I remember we ate spaghetti ($.39 a bag) and eggs for most of the winter and I worked in the school cafeteria to pay for hot lunches for my brother and myself.

Anyone who thinks those were the good old days did not live in them. It always makes me laugh when I see one of those books the Jehovah's Witnesses give out - the pics are usually idealized 50s. If that is what heaven is going to be like - I do not want to go!!!!

28. Some of this the left should understand more, deplore less.
Some liberals are like some conservatives. They disown and denigrate the other side too much. They don't seek to understand the other side. That attitude puts us at the mercy of demagogues like this author and the ilk of Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, etc.

This author cloaks himself in cherry-picked, idealized, worthy values (modesty, temperance, family togetherness). He then picks a fight with the left by using offensive hyperbole, neglecting America's far-from-perfect history, gay-baiting, etc. He dares us to say he is an idiot, and we sometimes gullibly oblige. Rhetorically, attacking this bozo for ignorance, bigotry, and arrogance puts us in the position of appearing to attack nuclear families, temperance, modesty, pride of country, etc.

Some of us fall for this trick every time. It's the main reason, IMO, that the left doesn't completely dominate American political thought. The left is better than the right by a mile, but we still lose because we refuse to stake our claim to the rightful ownership of all that is good in conservatism. Conservatism can keep its racism, sexism, homophobia, anger addiction, war fetishism, ignorance worship, etc. Everything else conservatism supposedly owns rightfully belongs to the left. Respect for freedom, patriotism, temperance, modesty, the value of hard work, religious faith, spiritual seriousness, love of our neighbor, respect for the Golden Rule,..., these values are alive and well on the left. Indeed, they are more alive on the left than on the right.
