perhaps the general question could be addresses for information purposes - just what and how long does such a banning take?

1. I believe that person was banned about two minutes after you posted your first question

To answer the general question though: sometimes (not always) when someone is acting out like that, the moderators will reach out to the member via private message to see if they can get them to cool off. In this particular case the member was clearly not interested in their outreach and was subsequently banned.

so sometimes people really get extra chances/benefit of doubt. good to know in light of the complaints about the "gravedancing" in this particular case and accusations of special treatment in other cases.
