1. It violated this rule.
Personal attacks, insults, name-calling, or questioning the character or motives of other DU members; discussing DU members rather than ideas.

Eleanor Roosevelt once said, "Great minds discuss ideas... Small minds discuss people." On Democratic Underground we strive to have a robust discussion of ideas but all too often members will derail those discussions by pointing fingers at or making derogatory comments about other DU members. It is the responsibility of every DU member to participate in a manner that promotes a robust and respectful discussion focused on ideas. The moderators are empowered to remove any post that disrupts discussion by insulting, attacking, or casting a fellow DU member (or members) in a negative light, or by diverting attention away from the message and onto the messenger.

2. it was a straightforward question
I was not the only person in that thread to object to the OP's use of out of context statements in an attempt to distort what the pundits who made those statements actually thought. It's a very dishonest approach and certainly doesn't lend itself to "robust and respectful discussion".

To have another poster applaud this deception as "worthy of a Democratic site" is an insult to anyone who disagrees and furthermore, insinuates that anyone who disagrees is not a Democrat. The post I responded to, I would argue, itself violates the rules by casting "fellow DU member (or members) in a negative light".

Mine was a straightforward question asking the poster why she thought such an attempt to mislead the casual reader was "worthy of a Democratic site". That seems a fair question to me.
