Is it too much to ask that gun-rights posts be restricted to the Gun Forum?

First reply out of the gate is one that utterly ignores the topic at hand in order to launch into a diatribe about gun rights. Is this right or fair to everyone else whose life does not revolve around guns? This is disruptive to discussion of the topic, seeing that it deteriorated into squabbling soon enough. Those who live by the gun - to the exlusion of all else - already have a forum dedicated to their personal fetish; must they be allowed to disrupt every other forum when they rally to the defense of guns every time one is fired?

If we are going to permit posts about gun-related violence to be posted on DU outside the Gun forum, then I think it is inevitable that there will also be discussion of gun rights.

FWIW, the moderators do have the authority to move Gun-related posts out of the main forums, especially if they are purely of the pro-anti variety.
