1. You and the lectures AGAIN.
Edited on Sun Sep-04-11 05:50 PM by CakeGrrl
What is your glitch with people who support the President?

Obviously you seem to be on a "Be nice to us or you'll hurt the President's chances" kick in an effort to not hear people call out some pretty nasty anti-Obama sentiment.

Deny it all you want, but the pattern is pretty evident to me.

By the by, an obvious anti-Obama poster just referred to me by a distortion of my screen handle. Seems like a poor showing for the 'constructive criticism / hold his feet to the fire' crowd to me.

3. There's nothing wrong with "calling out." But smearing is another matter entirely.
Edited on Sun Sep-04-11 06:06 PM by ClassWarrior
By the by, that sucks that you were treated badly. That's exactly the type of behavior I wish would stop. It doesn't help the President for Dems to be divided.

10. People's responses reflect on THEM.
If someone has been "smeared", go alert on the post. The mods seem to be on-duty.

You're not hiding the fact that you lay the "smearing" at the feet of Obama supporters. You really should rethink your approach, but I suppose it's difficult to break your pattern since you would clearly stand outside of the group you consistently seem to want to lecture.

44. I'm not hiding the fact that I believe hostility and division are no way to reelect a President.
As so many in the Obama-can-do-no-wrong crowd like to say, the President can't do it all by himself.

You'd think the people who most loudly proclaim they want to reelect him would want to make sure the views of potential campaign volunteers are respected.

For the record, I don't consider my conversations with friends or family or posts on DU speaking in his name, on his behalf or any other thing. When I start knocking on doors or making calls from walk sheets/call sheets given to me by the campaign then I will consider myself speaking on his behalf and I'm confident he would approve.

"It is worth noting the extreme disconnect between the public perception of the President as someone who stands up for what he believes in and the ongoing campaign to portray the President as weak and unprincipled by people who claim to be Democrats and supporters - just ones who, they insist, are perceptive enough and brave enough to be critical. Somehow their perceptive and brave criticism lines up with what the corporate media and the Republican PR machine says but not with what the vast majority of the public thinks. Interesting."

93. Why would anything I slather with vitriol and hate and relentlessly try to cram down your throat...
...make you angry?

Now that's the original question, isn't it?

63. To my knowledge, NONE of us here speak in Obama's name
I would hope that anyone working for Obama would have a signature indicating that.

I assume you mean the people who do not take your position on Obama and who defend Obama's decisions.

The fact is that our real choice is Obama or one of the Republicans - and Obama is FAR better than any of the Republicans. That does not mean that anyone here thinks Obama is perfect or that every decision he has made is correct. It does mean we don't like the attacks from the left.

I do agree that issues should be debated on the merits and attacks against people on any side of the Democratic debate should be treated with respect. From my POV, it is respectful to debate the issue brought up - even if there is disagreement.

67. You "don't like attacks from the left?" Well, I don't like attacks from either side. Both could...

...damage the President's prospects.

Think about it. People who claim they'll never vote for the President have nothing to lose by dividing Democrats. But those who claim they want to re-elect the President have everything to lose. You'd think we'd would want to lower the heat on the rhetoric if we're truly the President's supporters. And like it or not, when you speak as a candidate's supporter, you speak on that candidate's behalf.

69. I agree completely that lowering the heated rhetoric is important
Of course, I hate the RW hate talk against Obama and the lack of respect shown by some pretty mainstream Republicans.

I agree that supporters reflect on a candidate - often negatively, but I really think the distinction of "speaking on the behalf of" needs to interpreted as those genuinely empowered to speak for (the candidate). This is important even in retrospect as we need to differentiate between what anonymous posters on a blog said and what Obama and his designated surrogates said.

70. You may "really think the distinction of 'speaking on the behalf of' needs to be interpreted"...
...a certain way. But people are funny like that. They have minds and feelings of their own.

We can live in the world the way we want it to be, or we can live in the world the way it is. And the former ain't gonna get a President re-elected.

75. I disagree with your view of reality
Some DU poster advocating something does not mean that President Obama does - no matter how good a supporter they are.

I am not sure what you are arguing for here.

81. But that's how others perceive it.
You're right. Some DU poster advocating something does not mean that President Obama does. But that doesn't change how people perceive it. Some who may only be looking in, to get an idea of what the President's supporters are thinking. Are you fine with presenting an image of hostility and division to them?

82. I have always been against presenting a hostile image - and really do not think I ever have

though I will stand for what I think - usually politely. I have never seen anyone gain anything in real life because they are raging with anger. In fact, much the opposite - the type of "opponent" hardest to beat is one who can always appear calm and non-emotional.

78. "They have minds and feelings of their own"
Then why are you hopping on this soapbox to speak for the 'victimized'?

Can't they take care of themselves?

Or is this your stealth way of really doing this on your own behalf for slights you perceive have been leveled at YOU?

Because otherwise, you're contradicting yourself.

he would be aroused. I use a very sultry voice when I speak of other Democrats.

89. I think that supporters who continually point out how powerless he is aren't doing him any favors.
I don't think they are speaking in Obama's name though because I do not believe Obama feels that he is a victim or that he is weak.

91. YES.
I believe people can discuss issues and disagree without being disagreeable.

I personally admire President Obama and his family. It has been his tactics, his positions and even betrayals from his campaign pledges which have saddened and disappointed me.
