Dan Choi tweets out FAKE Obama quote AGAIN
From Dan Choi's Twitter feed:

Obama: "I have plenty of gay friends. Some work for me. Theyre just inferior to me, and don't deserve marriage. But I'll take their money."

So, apparently he is going to continue to be dishonest.

SHAME ON YOU Mr. Choi

21. This entire thread is name calling
Choi satirizes the President in a way that bothers the delicate Straights, and so he is called a liar. It is utterly perilous to free speech and honest discourse to engage in such tactics as portraying humor as sincerity, parody as intent to tell a falsehood. This is hugely dangerous to our culture and politics. It is dishonest, disingenuous, and it is hard for me to imagine that the President would approve of such things. He is not an idiot. Tell me, do you think his jokes should be presented in the press as serious comments? Do you think it is fair to quote say, Chris Rock and claim the man is being serious when he says this or that?
The tactics being employed here are detestable, no matter what might be advocated for or against with such tactics the tactics themselves are, to repeat, detestable.

23. And again:
It's dishonest to enclose a statement in quotes and attribute to a person who didn't EVER say those words.

Quotes are reserved for statements that are actually uttered by someone.

Sorry it pains you to see someone call Choi out on it, but he should knock it off.

27. Learn the rules of parody and satire,
In over your head here. You are being dishonest when you claim obvious parody is a 'made up quote'. Your own sarcasm is also uncalled for. "Sorry it pains you." What the fuck is that for, really? Because you with all your rights, are so harmed by the sarcastic comments of a man who has earned the right to snark at this government 10x over, as if that right was not natural born to all citizens? What standing have you to tell him to knock anything off? What stake do you have in it? What gain or loss is there to you, one way or the other? What could possibly motivate you to launch such screeds? To even know about the issue at all? Why are people who dislike Choi and are not part of our fight for equality following his Tweets gleaning for tidbits to construe as ThoughtCrime? Why? To what end?

29. Choi is a LIAR. See above.
When he drops the quotation marks, he'll stop getting called out.

You can give him all the passes you want because you share his attitude toward the President, but when he fabricates statements and puts the President's name next to them, he'll continue to get called out.

And he'll continue to push himself further past the bounds of credibility.

If he just makes shit up out of thin air, why should he be taken seriously? That's on him to decide how he wants to engage this public debate.

31. That is an rediculous stance and you should just drop it.
And again, characterizing my motives is against the rules of the house here. Also just rude. Again, I do not care for the tactic being repeatedly employed against Choi, who is a good man. That tactic is claiming that an obvious parody of Obama is a lie rather than a parody. That is just insane, and incorrect, and the fact that you keep slandering me personally, while I keep pointing out that the tactics I do not care for should say something. I take great, great exception to those who would take a sarcastic comment and twist that to be something it is not.
Choi should be taken seriously because of his record. But this comment shouldn't be taken seriously, was not intended to be seen as reportage, and every honest person knows that. It is a tweet from an activist. He's not 'making shit up' he's cracking wise on a holiday weekend, taking the piss out of our leadership on Independence Day. Claiming to not understand that just makes you seem thick.

whatever one's stand on the issues or the president's views, the fact that anybody think the "rules" you post apply to the electronic or even print world of satire is just completely ignorant.

Bonus Humanitarian Move: President Obama, unlike Bill Clinton, moved to prevent genocide (but unlike Bush II, President Obama waited until the UN sanctioned a NATO intervention), not that his critics give a shit about the humanitarian basis for the intervention in Libya.

Soldiers signed on to do their jobs and support the CIC. Their proud families honor their sacrifice. Too bad more Americans don't follow their lead.

Obama has ended one of BushCo's war, is on track to end another by 2014 and has helped prevent, along with the rest of NATO, the genocide of tens of thousands of Libyan rebels in Libya. These are facts that no amount of bilious swill will change.

...when it comes to LGBT issues. Why? Choi probably thinks Obama doesn't take LGBT issues seriously and a case definitely could be made for that.

Perhaps Obama could do more to address Choi's grievances and the grievances of the LGBT community as a whole.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

:eyes:

Yeah, you can pretend he's been sitting on his ass doing about as much as GWB in this regard, but reality says differently.

And in return, what does he get? The shitty stuff that Choi's putting out to fan the flames of anger?

Maybe Choi should have a reality check about what's been done and get some perspective relative to other presidential administrations.

38. I just went to Lt. Choi's website.
On the right side of the home page, it shows recent tweets. This was two days ago and it looks like it was in response to some snark that someone else put out there. It's like only hearing one side of a conversation. You don't get any context. On another note, he doesn't have an obligation to like any politician, not even President Obama. It's a free country.

44. Locking -
Though Lt. Choi isn't a protected member here, many who understand Choi's words & pain are; as are those who see Choi's words differently.

So, we're going to lock this thread as the interpretations of Lt Choi's satire has, unfortunately, made it too difficult for us to moderate.
