New Jersey Voters would pick Obama over their own Governor in Presidential race.

A new poll of Garden State Voters gives Obama a 49% to 43% advantage over Governor Chris Christie in his own home state of New Jersey,

Overall Obama has a 53% approval rating in the state.

Obama beats Romney by the same 49%-43% margin

1. If I remember correctly
Arizona almost picked Obama over McCain in 2008.

2. Of course things can change...

but its interesting how the media hyped Governor Christie as "THE MAN" who could save the GOP field and beat Obama in 2012. But the numbers tell a very different story. As of today, despite the hype and the 'GREAT WHITE HOPE" status Governor Christie has been given, he would actually have to fight just to win HIS HOME STATE against the President.

I made a mistake and left out that this was a Rasmussen poll. That means the President is probably a few points further ahead than what these numbers show.

6. He is actually quite unpopular in NJ

- and his polls are going down - with nearly each poll. A recent one had him at about 40. Rassmussen's 53 is a complete outlier.

Ironically this may push him to run in 2012. He has generated national interest, partly by doing things that make him increasingly out of sync with NJ, which is among the more blue states. He is up for re-election in 2013 - and his numbers look pretty bad for that. Even back in January, he tied with Corey Booker, Newark's mayor. That was when his approval was near 50.

In a way, he might be in the same situation Romney was in in 2006, when he opted not to run again for Governor because he was extremely unpopular. With Romney - not running - did not hurt. He was a leading 2008 candidate and appears a leading 2012 candidate. With Christie, the lie that he is "popular" in his blue state might be useful for him this time - but I assume his opponents would challenge it.

Sorry squeaky, but I hope you're wrong. My reps are all Republican and I've voted for them in the past. I'll be voting Democrat this fall.

:applause:

ETA: And this one...

Christie has stomped on too many blue collar people in NJ for the Republicans to take control in NJ this November. Also, this is Obama's race to lose in 2012 because there is not one exciting Republican. I have voted Republican for every presidential race since Ronald Reagan's second election to President in 1984 but I haven't seen one I would vote for in 2012.
