5. The President is accountable to everyone
There's no point in holding your one vote for "sale." It just doesn't work. That office will be filled. Republicans will vote and it will be filled with a Republican. Who you didn't vote for, so is that R President not accountable to you?

Why do people insist on this fallacy?

7. You are totally correct
I think everyone should recall what those 8 years of the Bush administration were like for those of us who didn't vote for him. "Who cares what you think," he said. He made no pretense to being the president of every American, as evidenced in the crass and callous reaction to the people (black, Democratic) who suffered in Katrina and were held hostage in a stadium.

I wished every day that he had remembered that he was supposed to be the president of ALL Americans, not just those who voted for him.

It may look rough to us, but I think Obama is trying to be that president. It was evident from his first "there are no red states and blue states" speech at the 2004 convention, and in the hard compromises he has had to make. But underneath it all, he has still tried to push as much as he is able for the basic things that will move the country forward. It may not look like that day to day, and he's made some disappointing compromises, but I do believe he is trying to accommodate all citizens in this nation.

If we can't get Dems to vote for our Platform and Programs...then doesn't it really mean that Republicans are more popular with American People?

What does that REALLY MEAN, though? If Repugs are the Popular Party...and Dems are just not significant?

11. Elected by a majority to represent the whole...
Edited on Wed Apr-06-11 08:28 PM by bhikkhu
so to some extent the president is bound personally to listen to and represent everyone, not just those that elected him.

That's just one of the problems. Another is that the job itself is secondary to congress as far as "change" is concerned; change needs legislation, and that depends on congress and the composition of congress.

A third is that much change involves expenditure. A large-scale agenda of change is first made quite difficult by the dreaded 30% of the population that never stopped believing in lil' shrub, and suspects that Obama is a Kenyan-born antichrist. Then it is made difficult by the influx of republicans into congress, led by the same shrub-fans now morphed into teabaggers. Then it is also made difficult by the legacy of the bush years - a massive deficit which tends to call for austerity more than anything else.

I didn't care much for the video; it seems like the same crap I've been seeing since the eighties, trying to wake people up to how bad things "really" are, but then offering nothing. What you wind up with is one video after another, one book after another, one rant after another, leading nowhere but waking you up every time. You get this feeling of urgency, of being all fired up, of everything suddenly making sense, but nothing to do about it. The feeling itself is the goal, and you just stoke the fires over and over.

Call me not impressed. Its clever exaggeration, things out of context deliberately, it ignores much of the practicalities of human nature and the structure of the society and government, and it asks people to do nothing differently.

I have to assume that YOU are very VERY unhappy with him.

If you are so angry with him, and you want him held accountable in some way, other than not voting for him, exactly how do you PLAN to hold him accountable??

You going to send him a nasty letter, and THEN vote for him?

btw ... in all honestly, I don't actually CARE who YOU vote for.

33. It's not only a compilation, its also one sided.
I watched the first 10 or so minutes and its very clear that its an agenda driven effort. The conclusions are put forward as facts first.

I've seen similar videos from the right wing. The main difference is that theirs select right wing commentators interspersed with selected clips which they use to claim that Obama is a socialist with communist tendencies.

Personally, I knew when I voted for Obama that he was not some liberal socialist, but instead a moderate, pragmatic Democrat. I also knew that the GOP would attempt to block anything he tried to do. I also knew that the same blue dog democrats who were in the Senate under Bush, were still there. Basically, I knew it was an up hill climb.

What I've found interesting is that apparently, Obama got about 1 year to change the world, if that. My guess is that some actually believed the GOP propaganda calling him the "Messiah". I never bought that.

He's a President, with a brick wall of GOP obstruction in front of him, and weak and whinny Democrats behind him.

As a few have mentioned, being President means he's President of all of us, not just some. One of the things I hated about Bush was that he did not understand that. Obama clearly does.

And so with that, I return to my earlier question. You want Obama "held accountable". Exactly in what manner do you want to hold him accountable?

36. Tell me WHY you couldn't watch the whole thing and THEN tell me what you think about it?
Why did you JUDGE after 10 minutes and then decide it was "one-sided." Do you realize you are replying to a life long Dem ..whose first vote was for Jack Kennedy?

Although...I can understand that was SO LONG AGO...I might not be considered a TRUE DEM these Days.

Is that what you are telling me and others like me who are LIFELONG DEMS? I don't think you would be so crass as to do that. I think you just have "closed your mind." That's NOT a good thing.

42. I had to put my daughters to bed, and an hour and 50 minute
propaganda piece just didn't seem like an enjoyable way to spend the night.

btw ... I'm a life long Dem too, so you can stop flogging that meme. And I don't care if you crawled over broken glass to vote for FDR.

As I have said repeatedly, you claim you want Obama "held accountable" but you can't take 2 minutes to tell me how and in what way, you would like to do that.

I suggested the most obvious choice, you didn't like it, but you don't seem to want to take a few minutes and tell me your approach for holding him accountable ...

... but you want me to watch an hour and 50 minute propaganda film.

No thanks.

It's about being CLEAR about Your Vote when you walk into that booth and looking at all the choices and voting your conscience. But, in these times INFORMATION is the KEY...and the more information we have the better we can make choices. We should NEVER GIVE UP looking for info on those we vote for ...because if we do we become "mindless" like the Repugs. We are better than that. We are the THINKERS.... The Repugs follow whoever tells them to to vote which way. Whether it's Corporate Powers like the Koch Brothers or their Church or their Voter Registration Card. They are LOCK STEP!

52. Yawn
While Rome Burns Democratic Supporters run wailing in the streets while the Republicans attack us from all sides.

No victory is good enough and never will be.

The Republicans are out to destroy him and the Democratic party and some choose to help them along the way.

Well I am not one of them.

He also said in one of his speeches, "YOU WILL NOT ALWAYS LIKE SOME OF THE DECISIONS I MAKE AND I WANT YOU TO HOLD ME ACCOUNTABLE"!

He didn't say, "When times get hard run wildly into the night cowering before the Republicans"!

I am telling you that the way that he has been disrepected by the Republicans and many on our side, I am not surprised.

If many want to give up then give up and shut yourself off from the world. If you don't want to fight the Republicans then keep getting your teeth kicked in.

Wisconsin is proving that we do not have to take this shit from the TeaPugs..... I am curious Democratic supporters are constantly whining that President Obama has no backbone....yet the same people complain that they are going to quit.....and why this and why that? A lesser man would have quit....but maybe that's what many want....a quitter.....

Whatever.....

In light of what is going on in WA and the shit that he has to deal with why are people trying to continue to attack him?

I don't give a crap if people like what I wrote or not....

I think it's a long film and probably some parts folks might want to "fast forward" ...but Chris Hedges rant at the end is WELL worth the watch..

I thought it was fascinating. I wonder what people who viewed it, think of it?
