Center for Democracy and Technology: White House Asks Congress to Pass "Consumer Privacy Bill of Rights"

Washington – Today, the Center for Democracy & Technology issued the following statement in response to the announcement by Commerce Department Assistant Secretary for Communications and Information Lawrence Strickling that the Administration supports passage of baseline consumer privacy legislation.

"This is a historic announcement, marking the first time the White House has called for a baseline consumer privacy bill," said CDT President Leslie Harris. "The Administration's vision of a strong, enforceable consumer privacy bill—based on a comprehensive set of Fair Information Practice Principles—echoes the same consumer protections CDT has advocated for more than a decade," Harris said.

"There's a window of opportunity here to pass strong consumer privacy legislation—with bipartisan support—in the 112th Congress," said CDT's Project on Consumer Privacy Director Justin Brookman. "The Administration's support is a welcome addition to that debate."

How about a little information on what the law does? That would help the OP a lot. Right now, all I know is the name of it.
