CNN projects former Obama Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel has won the Chicago mayoral election, topping 50% threshold and avoiding runoff.

10. Chicago does not have party primaries for city elections.

A multitude of Democrats and very rare Republicans run in a single election. If one gets 50%+1, they win. If not, the top two winners, usually both Democrats, go against each other in a runoff election 6 weeks later.
