anyone remember USA bomb libya in 1980's Reagan ERA
1986: US launches air strikes on Libya

At least 100 people have died after USA planes bombed targets in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, and the Benghazi region.
Around 66 American jets, some of them flying from British bases launched an attack at around 0100hrs on Monday.

The White House spokesman, Larry Speakes, has said that the strike was directed at key military sites but reports suggest that missiles also hit Bin Ashur, a densely populated suburb in the capital.

Colonel Muamar Gaddafi residential compound took a direct hit that killed Hanna Gaddafi, the adopted baby daughter of the Libyan leader.

President Reagan has justified the attacks by accusing Libya of direct responsibility for terrorism aimed at America, such as the bombing of La Belle discoteque in West Berlin.

1. I remember
I was in Washington DC at the time for our 9th Grade trip. We were supposed to go to the White House the next morning. I think it was on a Sunday and our trip was on a Monday. Thanks a lot St Ronnie :)

3. I Remember
I remember that Libyan-paid agents put explosives on Pan Am flight 101 and blew it out of the sky.

16. A Little More About Pan Am flight 103
STOCKHOLM — Libya's ex-justice minister claims he has evidence that Moammar Gadhafi personally ordered the Lockerbie bombing that killed 270 people in 1988, according to a Swedish newspaper.

Expressen on Wednesday quoted Mustafa Abdel-Jalil as telling their correspondent in Libya that "I have proof that Gadhafi gave the order about Lockerbie." He didn't describe the proof.

Abdel-Jalil stepped down as justice minister to protest the violence against anti-government demonstrations.

No matter how much we may dislike the Ray_Gun administration, there's no reason to whitewash other players just because Ray-Gun and company opposed them.

4. I believe the French wouldn't let US planes use its airspace for the flight to Libya.
So, that began a whole 'nother period of French bashing. :eyes:

5. I remember
Are you saying Reagan was wrong on this? If anything, he should have bombed harder.

6. I was way deep in Mexico when that happened.
What did you think that America Media never talk about St. Ronnie bombing in Libya

The question makes no sense whatsoever. I learned of the bombing when I walked into a tourist bar. There was a big TV blaring CNN with details of the bombing.

8. I was in the Jordanian desert with my Army unit.
We had been deployed for a few weeks and were pre-positioned for a CSAR (which was never ordered). It was a complete surprise to us lowly enlisted. It made it extremely dicey with the Jordanian troops we were training with after the bombing. We had to get out of dodge pretty quickly after the raid.

9. I'll always remember that day.
I was in Malta, on a sailboat, at the dock. Our very friendly, Maltese dockhand said to us. You must leave. "NOW". The Anti-US demonstrations were just beginning. Something about the US missed Gaddafi but killed his kids.

15. Yup. I'd consider "softening" him up right now. Taking out the heavy equipment and air force would
give the people a chance without hundreds of thousands dead.
