Now that Sarah Palin has decided to communicate through Glenn Beck's radio show, we get to hear pearls of wisdom like this:

"But please look into protection for your family. An attempt on you could bring the republic down."

-- Glenn Beck, giving advice to Sarah Palin in the aftermath of the Arizona shootings.

If Palin needs security, she should get it, but it's pretty remarkable that Glenn Beck believes the fate of the Republic hangs in the balance. We do not presently face an existential crisis nor will we anytime soon, and the fact that Glenn Beck says that we are on the cusp of such a crisis is emblematic of his strange combination of cynicism and delusion. That Fox and Clear Channel give him a platform from which to spew his paranoid nonsense on a daily basis is wildly irresponsible.

She has plenty already - she got even higher security when she was watching her kid on DWTS. In fact, according to TMZ, security was told that if there was a breach, that Sarah was a higher priority than Bristol. And from what I heard Palin say on SP's Alaska, she and her whole family are armed and excellent shots - who'd mess with that?

Besides - they already said that violent images/rhetoric are not responsible when targeted individuals get harmed. It is just something that happens that can't be prevented.

So no worries about Palin - all the criticizing words by the rest of the world won't bring a bit of harm to her, by their logic.


And seriously, Beck is an idiot - he built a fence around his CT home without approval of his home association, because he wanted it built much higher than is permitted, because he was scared of some of his listeners. I can't find it right now, but this was something I believe I read in an interview with him. If Beck and Palin's whacked out followers are about to go further out of control and take it out on Beck and Palin, there isn't anything they can do to roll back their own disappointed bots. They whipped up the fever, with no thought to the consequences for others, or even themselves. What risks some people take in order to get millions....

24. A number of cons see this as a threat, & agree with it.

They interpret the line "An attempt on you could bring the republic down" as a threat from conservatives to launch a civil war if anything happens to Palin. There was a Daily Kos diary on this that referenced material from Free Republic (though that's about the most feverish part of the fever swamp). Too tired to hunt it up now.
