Positive suggestions needed: What can Obama do now to undo the deal???
Edited on Wed Dec-08-10 10:37 AM by skip fox
He has to maintain political credibility so he can't do a 180 degree turn without a reason.

Can he find a flaw or error or lie in how the Republican's will go about extending the cuts and benefits and base renegotiation on that?

I'd love to see the cuts extended on those earning less than 1 million only wile reviving the "death tax." But now we need to think f how Obama can back out of this disaster.

Ideas??

3. They held a vote on this. It failed, because Senate Democrats want to keep
tax cuts for the wealthy. So now there is a compromise plan.

15. Four Dems voted against it--and no Repubs on board. Didn't have 60.

17. So "the" Senate Democrats voted for it. "Some" or "Four" Senate Democrats voted against it.

When you write "the" it sounds like you are blaming the party en masse instead of just a small group.

4. he can become a different person
there's no reason to believe Obama isn't doing exactly what he intends to do. Instead of waiting for him to change, we need to oppose him when he does this kind of thing, which he will do. He will also do good things and we will need to support him then.

5. Do you think he wants to keep tax cuts for the wealthy, and that the Dem Congress
is just begging to let them expire?

10. You understand that the Senate Democrats voted down the middle class tax cuts, right?
Four Democratic Senators want tax cuts for the wealthy. (Something like 30 Dem Reps in the House also voted against the middle class). How do you fix this?

9. Reports say the White House is shaken. If so, they might consider changing course.
To do so, they'll need a "fig leaf."

I'm opperating under the 25% chance he may want to rethink the issue. HOW might this be done seems to be one of the few constructive things we can do at this point. (As well as supporting Democratic opposition of course.)

12. Changing course and doing what: allowing a vote for only middle class cuts to
be passed and letting the wealthy's cuts expire? What do you think the Dem Congress wants to have happen?

11. The House
The House is his best bet. They can be the basis for modifying the deal to "get more". Unfortunately, they'll never get the repeal of the rich tax cuts. It will merely be getting more in return for that concession.

16. I don't think that he can undo the bad parts of this bill BUT the congress
can demand more in return. They can sweeten the pot more. If we have to give in to get what we want then make it to our advantage.
