LA Senate: Melancon (D) final ad "Vitter used tax dollars to solicit prostitues"
Now Melancon has put an ad on the air going after Vitter for using "tax dollars" to solicit prostitutes. The ad, which you can watch below, also mentions a former Vitter aide arrested on numerous charges including domestic abuse.

Until now, ads on the scandal were done by the state party, were Web-only ads or ran just once in the case of a 2-minute hit which played during a recent LSU game.

"Our money paid for serious sin," a narrator says in an ominous voice, quoting from Vitter's own admission of his indiscretion.

"The real sin is that David Vitter is still a senator," the narrator says in closing.

Team Melancon said the ad will run statewide across Louisiana beginning this morning, a last-minute punch before voters head to the polls next week.

1. It's a sin that Louisiana voters are uninformed enough to keep voting for...
...a diaper-wearing idiot like Vitter.

3. They should do a spot with someone wearing a diaper.
Or maybe show a baby in a diaper and voice in the background saying that diapers are intended for one reason. Not pretending to be a baby.

10. Yes indeed, as a voter I would not want a diaper-clad Senator

6. You have to remember
Republicans only get upset with the kind of things Vitter did when it's a "DEMOCRAT" that did them. When it's one of their own they simply ignore it and just keep on voting for them.

9. A lot are Fixed News viewers & are severely uninformed
but most in the lower region get their paychecks from the oil industry. We're talking big paychecks. Until this country comes up with a comparable fuel alternative to quench this country's thirst for fueling cars, I don't see how our state will change.

Now, if a diaper were used in an ad, I think it might do some damage for Vitter, maybe having a prostitute explaining his fetish. But up in the northern Christian-leaning part of the state, a diaper mention would be devastating. Even this ad as it stands will most likely be effective up in that part of the state.

14. i think that only an outside group could get away with mentioning the diapers
and I think they would need to show the sentences describing it from a few reputable newspapers. Because it really is off putting - to put it mildly, the candidate himself should not touch that. I agree that kinkiness - in addition to the immorality should hurt him. I still don't get why he is still there.

16. You're so right -- I could see it backfiring on him.
I wish someone else would say it on tv. If it were done in a commercial, Melancon is bound by law to "endorse" the ad, which would implicate him. Frustrating!

And the reason (besides the one I mentioned in my previous post) that Vitter is still here is due to the political divisiveness that was created by Bush, which is a national problem.

15. LA media has kept the story(s) on blackout.
Many people in LA didn't know about any of his issues six months ago.

2. Good job - invoke "sin" for the churchgoing crowd
and at least make them feel guilty for voting for Vitter if they still can't stand to vote for a Dem.

13. My only question is how are the 15 Senators ranked less effective than he is
He was elected in 2004. I think they over ranked him - or scored him by what LA got, which was more based on Katrina and BP.

17. They had their final debate tonight. Melancon was VERY aggressive, calling Vitter
a "serial liar" and repeatedly bringing up the fact that Vitter broke the law, asking him to tell the people whether he broke the law or not. He refused to answer repeated questions for a "yes or no answer."

19. This could be effective

It needs to be on 24-7 though. It could create coffee shop gossip... let's hope.
