Rove says Palin lacks 'gravitas' for presidential run
Rove says Palin lacks 'gravitas' for presidential run

Ex-senior Bush aide says upcoming Alaska reality TV show will hurt her chances

Karl Rove told a British newspaper Wednesday that he has serious doubts about Sarah Palin's viability as a presidential candidate.

The former senior adviser to George W. Bush told The Daily Telegraph of London that he questioned whether Americans thought the former Alaska governor had the "gravitas" for the "most demanding job in the world."

It was a stronger stand than Rove took earlier in the week in addressing Palin's prospects for 2012.

Rove previously also spoke out about Republican Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell in Delaware, saying she couldn't win the general election, but he later backpedaled on the statement.

Noting Palin's upcoming TV series on Alaska wilderness, Rove told the Telegraph it was unlikely that voters would regard someone starring in a reality show as presidential material.

"With all due candor, appearing on your own reality show on the Discovery Channel, I am not certain how that fits in the American calculus of 'that helps me see you in the Oval Office,'" Rove told the Telegraph, which said he remains a considerable force on the U.S. political scene.

22. Well, that's the point
If she doesn't even meet Rove's standards for gravitas, there's really not much more that needs to be said.

Expect a statement "walking back" those comments in......1......2......3......

Palin has almost become as sacred as Rush Limbaugh, which is to say nobody who wants to be elected in the GOP should dare criticize her lest the teabaggers get upset. :eyes:

Not that I'm one for discouraging any "tension" within the GOP.

5. In the past the Republicans would keep their
remarks to themselves, even through a primary season, nevermind this far before it even starts.

I'm encouraged that the ego-driven in-fighting has begun on the Pukes' side of the field. May it proceed without impediment and be mean-spirited and divisive.

26. Don't mistake this for what it isn't ...
The Rs like their presidents to be on board, to look the part and know who is actually in power ...

Palin is all about Palin, and is not manageable.

In taking Jr. to the white house, Rove is now the fulcum of the party. This is about sending a message to the worker bees. The people who WIN the elections in running the campaign.

I have always said she will flame out because she is not disciplined and does not like the work AND because she won't have the steady campaign people with her you need to win a presidential. That has always been the case because no one of any real quality will want to have to work with her.

But, this is Rove letting them know for sure that they will be backing the wrong horse.

She IS going to run, "liberal" media will glam her, but she will flame out ...

30. They like Mittens ...
The only "in" will be the economy (unless there is a terrorist attack, which they will use to absolutely bludgeon him), and Mittens is the guy with economic gravitas and "experience" as a governor ...

I still contend, had he been the candidate instead of McCain when the economy broke, he would have at the very least made it a LOT harder on BO to win in 08 ...

32. I can see Willard running up competitive percentages
in swing states but am less sure he can win nomination.

The alley fight over the Pukes' nom is going to be fierce and bloody and, I certainly hope, devasatating -- to a point where finally holding nomination won't be worth the fight to get it.

There are an awful lot of extremist nutcases already forming exploratory committees, which serve primarily as huge piggy banks for their egos.

7. I don't think Rove can stop her now. The crazies of the party love her and the media is carrying
her. The crazy base have won the big primaries and have taken over the republican party. Their convention in 2012 will be a zoo, with the crazies having it their way.

I especially like his comments about her and her reality show! I only wish he would have mentioned her incessant use of Twitter and Facebook in his comments, that would really twist the knife a turn or two. His remarks will piss her off, maybe she will issue a tweet about them tomorrow. Bwahahaha!!

19. Palin is the teabaggers dream. Somebody should straight jacket
that woman! She is the epitome of hate against democrats, progressives and liberals. Woman said nary a word when one of her supporter shouted out 'kill him' at one of her McCain/Palin rally.

Instead she said, summarizing, 'he is not one of us', hence the teabaggers got formed.

20. As I've stated before, the RNC will destroy Palin if she tries to run as a Republican
She may want to start her narcissistic presidential run with some third party, hence splitting the Republican vote in 2012.

Where do I send a check?

27. I'm with you .... the RNC is allwoing her to do their bidding ... for now ...
She needs to learn the names Linda Tripp, Katherine Harris ... she's not, and never will be a full member of the GOP's he-man boys club.

She's their entertainment, the opening act. And she'll be easy to replace ... Christine O'Donnell, Carrie Prejean ... they'll replace her.

Sarah Palin to the GOP ticket in 2008, going as far as arranging an ocean cruise for neoconservative fat-cat power brokers to sail to Alaska, ostensibly to behold its natural beauty but in actuality to have dinner with the young charismatic far-Right nutbag, Sarah Palin, almost certainly with a view toward placing her on the GOP ticket.

This was an extraordinary piece of political coordination, not to mention the very telling emphasis.

Rove was not included in the prep or implementation and possibly resents its success, and seems to be staking out a power hold via financial contributions to specific candidates.

My best hope is that a savage struggle for influence is already under way and likely to continue. Let there be conflictual loyalties torn asunder and irreconcilable grudges, ladies and gentlemen, and let there be harsh words and many lethal wounds.
