How Meg Whitman Failed Her Way to the Top at eBay, Collecting Billions While Nearly Destroying CO
Former CEO Whitman's record of gross incompetence, massive waste and personal enrichment is breathtaking. That the media isn't talking about it is incredible.

October 26, 2010

With the elections for governor just around the corner, most California voters probably think they have a pretty good grasp of the pros and cons of Republican candidate Meg Whitman: on the downside, she's an aloof billionaire who can't be bothered to vote or remember her own servants' names after nine years, and she's dabbled in the sort of insider double-dealing with Goldman Sachs that's brought the nation's economy to its knees.

On the plus side, many still regard Whitman as one of the most effective and successful business leaders around. Three decades of relentless pro-business PR have convinced a lot of voters that our best business leaders know best, and that's been Whitman's main selling point, going back to her first campaign ad:

"I have run large organizations. I know how to create jobs. I know how to focus. I know how to balance a budget. And, I think, a business perspective is a bit of what California needs right now."

4. Unfortunately, this is old news that
nobody in the media seems to care about. People who are into tech know what a loser Whitman was as CEO of Ebay. The Skype acquisition was a huge joke at the time—mostly because she didn't buy THE UNDERLYING TECHNOLOGY that made Skype what it was. So she spent 4 billion on pretty much nothing.

What an idiot.

5. You can't run a government from a business perspective.
Edited on Wed Oct-27-10 12:53 PM by county worker
A business budget starts with a mission statement. Such as, Our goal is to lead the industry in the manufacture and sales of double spring loaded household widgets.

Then you decide what it takes to fulfill the mission statement. Some issues are how much in sales is needed and what are the cost of goods and the general and admin costs, what profit margin and net income is anticipated.

A government budget starts with, how much revenue is available. Next you decide on how that revenue will be spent. You can't raise revenue by working harder on your sales campaign. You have to raise tax revenue and fees and grants somehow. There are always two opposing sides each with a different mission statement. There is no net income. There is no profit.

6. Another nail in Meg's CA Gov coffin, as if it needed any more nails.
She's toast - has been for weeks since the housekeeper story broke.

Still, I heard just this morning on NBC LA that the CA Gov race "is close" as is the Boxer/Fiorina race. Since when is a 8-10 point deficit (and trending WORSE) "close" when you're within a week of Election Day?
