Time/CNN poll: Angle (R) 42% Reid (D) 40%
Still tight, but it's bothersome that recent polls are showing Angle with a slight lead:

Angle Edges Reid in New Poll
A new CNN/Time/Opinion Research poll in Nevada shows Sharron Angle (R) leading Sen. Harry Reid (D) in the race for U.S. Senate, 42% to 40%, with 7% for Scott Ashjian with 10% planning to vote for "none of the above."

Said pollster Keating Holland: "It's a two-point race with Ashjian on the ballot, but it's also a two-point race when voters are asked a hypothetical question about a race with only Reid and Angle's name on the ballot. That suggests that Ashjian is pulling his support about evenly from both sides, rather than taking most of his support from the Republican. Only about one in ten supporters of the Tea Party movement choose Ashjian in the three-way race."

2. On a good note
Angle isn't anywhere near the magic 50% mark yet. With her up 42 to 40 it means IMHO that there are still a lot of people to convince. Reid has to convince them, lucky for us it's Angle that he has to convince them to vote against rather than vote for him.

6. Not good for an incumbant to be nowhere near 50 too, and look the official tea party
candidate is at 8%? If some of those nuts begin defecting it would be probably to Angle.

13. They hate Reid in Nevada
the only reason he's even close is because Angle is such a nutjob.

Win or lose I think the Democrats are going to have to do something about Harry the next time around.

38. You've called it correctly. Reid can only lead if...
...she continues to put her foot in her mouth. The longer it's been since the last gaffe... the more it becomes "Reid vs. NotReid"... and that's not a race he can win.

4. I dont like the trend in Nevada. This has been now 3 or 4 polls showing the race moving to Angle.
Each of them independently shows a move in the MOE, but the accumulation of polls all going in the same direction is not good.

42. Voters probably want a change and don't care who can bring it
Edited on Wed Oct-06-10 07:42 PM by golfguru
When unemployment is as high as it is in Nevada, people are
angry and want a change. People were mad at Bush and they did
not care who was running against him, if he promised change he
got their vote. Remember the votes Angle will get, half of them
are anti-Reid votes, not pro-Angle votes. All Angle needs to say
is she will bring a change to unemployment and voters won't ask how.

At best, it is a tie. Not good for the Senate Majority Leader, whose position by itself should be a plus for him, and who is running against somebody of Angle's caliber.

surprised everyone when he lost. It can happen. It will likely be close, but generally, considering history, leaders of this magnitude as incumbents win in the end.

10. I agree. Reid has to get more agressive or something. I thought that publicity
about her trying to get the tea party candidate out of the race and how the GOP is just like the Dems would hurt her.

28. It's the most idiotic logic I have ever heard.
Voting for this nutjob just because she isn't Reid is fucking stupid. She has not proven the least bit that she would be an improvement from him so they're going against their own best interests by supporting this loon simply because she isn't the incumbent. It makes no sense.

However, considering how despised he is, Reid should thank his lucky stars she's his opponent, at least he has a fighting chance. Of Lowden had won he'd be toast right now.

14. Is Angle smarter than O'Donnell?
Because politically, she seems even more right-wing, yet O'Donnell is down 15-20 points. Why not Angle? And don't tell me it's because Reid isn't popular. Coons is not a good candidate either and has his share of things that raise eyebrows.

18. Problem is
Reid's position means he has to own Congress' approval ratings, which, like legislatures almost everywhere in the US, are not good. Plus there's the ever-present themes of 'change' and 'Washington is broken' etc. Plus Republicans are doing better than usual in many places across the country. Basically, every trend is working against him -- Angle was a godsend to him and really the only thing that could have saved him. Still, it's going to be close.

20. Because most Nevada hates Reid...
He's only in this race because Angle is a complete loon. If it were any other candidate, Reid would be down 20-30 points.

That's not the case with O'Donnell.

16. Reid's unfavorables are still way over 50% last I looked
And his favorables are under/around 40. Can't blame him for all of that; he's dealing with the most depressed state in the country after Michigan.

Between his third-rate opponent and his organizational strengths, he can still win.
