So much for The Weekly Standard and "Youth Vote Shifts Right"

October 04, 2010 2:20 pm ET by Eric Boehlert

Last week, TWS looked at a recent Rock The Vote poll and announced Republicans suddenly had a real chance to capture the youth vote; that younger voters were trending to the right. But that's not the what the poll really showed.

Since then, we've seen new polling data from Gallup, which further undercut TWS's claim :

Registered voters aged 18 to 29 were more likely in September than in August to favor the Democratic candidate in their congressional district, resulting in the widest generational gaps so far this year in the vote for Congress.

According to the September data, young registered voters favored the Democrats by 55% to 36% over the Republicans -- a 19-percentage-point margin. That was up from 9 points in August, and contrasts with a 12-point advantage for the Republicans in September among seniors (52% to 40%).

1. The rest of us have had plenty of time to learn from our mistakes...
...yet only the young seem to have learned anything.

Hmmmm.

5. But it is 18 to 29. 25 to 29 year olds may be done with college.
I think it is like most of the rest of the adults out there, the younger folk started paying attention the closer we get to the election.

4. It's hard to support the idiots that the Republicans have running right now.
They have been in the news a lot and doubt they have received much in the way of favorable response from the younger voters.
