Michelle Obama Never Said White House Life is "Hell," French Spokesman Says

French Embassy spokesman Emmanuel Lenain says a book's claim that first lady Michelle Obama told French first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy that life in the White House is "hell" is false.

"Mrs. Bruni-Sarkozy distances herself completely from the content of the book 'Carla and the Ambitious,' which was not authorized and the authors alone are responsible for its contents," Lenain, spokesman at the French embassy in Washington DC, said. "The words attributed to the First Lady of the United States were never said."

The Daily Mail newspaper first reported the book's claim that Mrs. Obama responded the following when asked by Bruni-Sarkozy about life in the White House: "Don't ask. It's hell. I can't stand it."

The Daily Mail reported that the book was written "in collaboration with Miss Bruni," but the statement above contests that claim.

1. Interesting
Didn't stop the "journalists" from, earlier, reporting the story as fact did it?

doesn't matter...
it will spread into the media... and will be accepted as truth. Limbaugh, Hannity and Levin will drone about it daily... the TRUTH starts to be meaningless. It's about the perceived "truth"... and those that control the megaphone...

2. But it does do one thing it lets the whole world know that
Ms Bruni is so damn jealous of Michele Obama she doesn't know what to do. Else why would she even say anything like that about her.

3. Daily Mail is a right-wing British gossip rag whose readers sound like freepers re: the Obamas.

I'm not surprised that they quoted a sleezy book on Sarkosy's very liberal supermodel wife is their "source".

5. I wouldn't blame her if she did say it.
That life has to suck. Even with the immeasurable perks.

6. Plenty of First Ladies have felt that way and no wonder.
But I guess the book's publisher must be liking the attention.

9. Jackie O basically said the same thing, as did Harry Truman.
White House life has to suck sometimes.

Truman called it the "crown jewel of the federal penal system" and Jackie said to Hugh Sidey once "Hugh, it's like a prison."
