"I hope to God someone shoots you dead, you liberal Pig"
"I hope to God someone shoots you dead, you liberal Pig"
Mon Sep 06, 2010 at 08:37:48 AM PDT

Another day, another story of right-wing rage against the African American guy in the White House, how it constitutes a public menace to all of us, and how we had better not sit out this election and turn the country over to these lunatics. Thanks to the Arlington County (Virginia) Democratic Committee's superb Deputy Chair Maureen Markham for sharing (bolding added by me for emphasis).

Dear Friends,

I wanted to write and tell you about an experience that I had in Maryland on Highway Route 40 today. I had been to visit my parents in Delaware and was driving home to Arlington. Often I avoid the heavy traffic on I-95 and take Route 40 to Baltimore. I was stopped at a traffic light, about to turn right to jog over to join 95 and take the tunnel under the harbor, when a dark sedan pulled up alongside me, beeped, and the driver motioned for me to roll down my window. It was not an isolated place and in broad daylight with lots of other cars around. I thought the person wanted to ask directions or something so I put down the window. The driver was a normal-looking young white man, maybe 35 or so, with short sandy hair. He leaned forward from his open window and said to me “Did you vote for Obama?”

I should say here that I have two bumper stickers on my back fender. One says “Peace is Patriotic.” The other is a round circle that says Obama-Biden. I answered "I sure did." Then he got loud and excited in a sneering sort of way and asked something like, "Are you happy now with the way things are going?" I thought “uh-oh” but I answered again, "I sure am." Then the guy went off his rocker and started verbally accosting me saying something like, "I hope to God someone shoots you dead, you liberal Pig..." Sophie started barking and I said "Oh that’s nice" as I rolled up my window. He lurched forward, cutting me off in the lane and beeping his horn and I made my right turn, glad to get away from him.

....................

Please, if you are not paying attention to your local elections this fall, now is the time to get involved. If you voted for Obama and are now disappointed because he is not Left enough, think what it will be like when they try to undo what he has managed to accomplish. If you voted for Obama and are now disappointed because he is too Liberal for you, do you really want to go back to the Wild West days when people wore guns in holsters on their hip? Do you approve of people trying to threaten and intimidate others just because they voted for a Black man for President? Did you all really think that we could turn around 8 years of war and decline in just 18 months? Do you really want to hand over the reins of government to the people who drove us into the ditch and who have stubbornly refused to be part of any solution to pull us out? These people would rather see Obama fail, and the middle class suffer, and the country pulled apart by strife and conflict than do anything to make things better. This is not putting country first. Don’t let this kind of cynicism succeed!

Please folks, don’t sit this one out. If we fail to participate, and the other side wins for lack of enthusiasm on our part, then truly Fear will triumph over Hope. We just can’t let that happen! Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Thanks for reading, and feel free to pass this on.

Still a Hope Monger,
Maureen

1. You know what you should have said....
...."now, mister, when the nurse in the ER asks you what happened, are you gonna tell her you got your ass kicked by a "liberal pig", or are you gonna lie and tell her you were in a horrific car wreck?
I'm pretty sure a pussy like you would lie to avoid showing what a fucking coward you are."

The only way to make any sense of your statement is to equate "atheist" and "bad person" and I find that quite offensive.

Maybe you should retract that bullshit remark.

I don't think my pepper spray and cane are enough.
We don't have children in the house, but keep it out of would be reach, but where I can get at it in a hurry if needed. I do have to say that up no one comes up our private dirt trail unless they have business up here, like the meter reader or UPS and our nieghbors family. One brother seems to have a problem, but I don't think he wants to chance messing around up here..and like most other phobes..hes a closet case. My Gaydar tells me so.

12. haha...you libs are so frickin unaware!
i'm old, 60 years old, and saw rightwing fascism quietly take over. In the 60's, 70's, the reactionary right rampaged through Latin America. The solid middle class progressives were STUNNED that boorish men chewing toothpicks could round up and murder tens of thousands of victims chosen by neighborhood, by work asociations and by political opinions. If one had compassion for the poor, you were a COMMUNIST and needed killing. In S America (and rest of world) it was right out in the open....In N America and Europe (ie 1st world) it was also done, but secretly. The FBI murdered god knows how many(?)...It's the same thing today, only it's creeping out into the open. And it will catch yall off guard when they ramp up the 'slobbocaust'!
i myself await mister pig with no compassion whatsoever :)

34. I agree...
...the Fascism has been patiently engulfing our democracy--slowly like a boa constrictor ingesting a woodchuck.

What we are witnessing, is the final stages.

We no longer have a democracy. They're just digesting the last vestiges.

And what happens if you attempt to rescue the dead, partially-digested woodchuck? There are
protections in place for the snake. At this phase of the game--the snake has trap doors
set for you. And if you try to do anything stupid (which is futile anyway, the woodchuck
is dead and decaying), you are declared an "enemy combatant", detained indefinitely, refused
an attorney and your Habeas Corpus rights--and you can be tortured.

Oh dear, you say. This is bad. Yeah, that's why the snake put these fail safes in place before
everything was so obvious. And naming it a pretty euphemism like "The Patriot Act" is helpful
too.

We're all ready screwed. All you can do is prepare for what's next and determine how you're going
to handle living in a Fascist nation, or if you'll leave, etc.

89. I told everyone so!
actually several someones had told me..holocaust survivors in the early 90s..though I could see for myself. Which is why I listened when a few of my neighors in Miami said things like that voluntarily. Without me asking or leading. Also several federal LEOs told me such things, again without me asking. From drug smuggling to the right wing take over leading to fascism.
I guess I have a trust worthy face..its happened all my adult life folks will come up to me and tell me the most outrageous things then in a week or a few months or even a year something happened to prove what was said.
From George Wallace saying that the Bush family are crooks that make the mafia look like church deacons to former dea and nsa agents (their claim) tellin me that dea was involved in the cocaine/crack shiping into Miami..to a few months later while i was on my sales route seeing a small camo painted prop engine plane landing in the Everglades and men in dea jackets with machine guns and Colombians offloading packets of coke in kilo bundles. No, none were opened, I could smell it..if you live in So Fla in the 80s you learn that smell if you went out to any dance clubs.
We need to get more than a clue, because these assholes carrying guns to town meetings will be shooting at people soon enough.

115. never forget...cowards die 1000 deaths....lol
we gotta keepin sight-mister pig succeeds cuz no one cares, and as soon as the leftwing starts/ moves (usa, like all democratic populations, are libleft!) it moves BUT once! Lookit WW2, or Civil war, or indeed anything....the pig wins and winsand seems to win, but, FINALLY, the score is obvious and...once the good guys get going, it's fast/easy. But the rightwing ....I think humanity face the fact FINALLY, that the rightwing cannot be allowed in newsmedia, or in elected office unless they declare they're rightwing (which says they never get elected anyway haha)
Notice no one says they're rightwingers. Always for the workingman, small biz and soon!
The point is, humanity has gotta decide- to live or die. Period. We can't force them...they must choose life or death.

"Jimmy Carter's "message of peace and reconciliation under almost all circumstances is simply incompatible with Christian teachings as I interpret them. This 'turn the other cheek' business is all well and good but it's not what Jesus fought and died for. What we need to do is take the battle to the Muslim heathens and do unto them before they do unto us." ~ Jerry Falwell

School of the Amurkas. Im a bit younger but I lived in rural wv where the kkk is or was still active. I split when I graduated from HS, knowing that it might not be worth it to stay there.

2 months after I left, a gay man was taken to what was then an undeveloped area and butchered him..I do not exaggerate. First he was castrated then dismembered finally slashing his throat..the cops said it looked like a couple hours of torture..No one was ever arrested, that I ever heard. Beyond the autopsy I don't think the right-winger cops in that area did not even bother to investigate further I have only been back home a few times and mostly to see dying relatives or funerals, never staying for more than 3 or 4 days. The same thing happened to an acquaintance in Al not long after that..not the same culprits Im sure. Since they took place a few months and 400 miles apart and the second one was arrested in the following weeks and is still in prison afik.

I started going to different churches in the mid 70s since I did not think much of the S Talibaptis church we were herded into by my stepmom.

I found worse churches, Church of gawd, pentecost many of those were dominionist of one stripe or another. Code words to cover their hatred of religious freedom. Some bragging about weapons they had hidden while waiting for the revolution. The have gotten more violent, it was easy to vilify fags since few if any of the rest of society would defend us, they would jump on the faggots is evil bandwagon.

117. I have turned away from religion, its for the mentally and spiritually deficient
I mean those idiots that spout all the nonsense, judging others fitness for living etc.
My grandmother was a 'great' Christian.
We did not even know of the good works she did.
She simply did them and did not tell anyone.
When she was on her death bed, there was a crowd of people none of the family even knew that came to pay respects..People that she had taken holiday dinners to, or Christmas presents of clothes and toys for children who would not even have had a meal because one or both parents were sick or unemployed or gone.
Some said she would show up out of the blue with a full meal or just what ever they needed. WV is poor as a lot here have heard she was a waitress for many years, and she would take her own money to do these things.

I could not bear to stay for her funeral. I have been to so many funerals during the time of HIV.
I wanted to remember her alive after all those people praised her to me. She held on until I could drive home and died shortly after I got there, her last words were " I knew you would come. Is Bill with you? I told her he could not come he had to work. She said tell him I love him too.
Bill is my partner, the one that the rest of the family would not meet.
It made an impact the family looked stunned and my dad seemed to change his mind about gay folks right then. Several months later I get a call from him "Linda(stepmom) and me will be there in a couple of hours".
Its 10 hr drive to here.

I try to live simply and live by the golden rule. I have limited cheeks and patience and will retaliate if needed.

No they do not know Christ they use him as a battle flag to promote hate.

I have found my place with in my self. I am agnostic - atheist. If there is something, someone out there or a heaven and hell.
I figure I have lived my life as best I could.
I have survived Cancer 4x, any number of assaults for being gay and lived with HIV for 27 yrs. All they can do is kill me..but I'll try take a few with.

the republican platform who have clearly stated they want to destroy unions, social security, medicare, assume illegality based on the color of your skin, and the destruction of the rights to privacy

If these demographics, come out and vote, we will win, if they don't, then should I really have sympathy for them?

A. It's not the Republicans--who have tried their damndest to block any legislation that would help us get out of the ditch. Yet, some folks are unthinking enough and angry enough to put them back in charge.

voting against all Republicans/Tea Party members. I mostly blame the GOP for creating the mess during the Cheney administration, and I'll remember in November. But some Democrats are guilty of aiding and abetting the wholesale sellout of the working class. I'll remember them in November, too.

Also, the Senate filibuster rules have made that body nonfunctional. If majority rule no longer applies, does it matter which party sets the agenda? Honest question; might be a rhetorical one.

These people are dangerous.

During her "Redneck-Woodstock" speech in Searchlight, Nevada on March 27, 2010, Sarah Palin had a suggestion for her audience:

"That bumper sticker that maybe you'll see on the next Subaru driving by -- an Obama bumper sticker -- you should stop the driver and say, 'So how is that hopey, changey thing working out for ya?'"

They are the most small minded and cowardly people in the world. They can never admit they were wrong and will deny ever supporting anything that went awry. Of course, once enough time has gone by they will claim to have been on the opposite side ala Beck trying to claim the civil rights movement.

In fact I'm SERIOUSLY disappointed in his lack of fight for leftist positions.

As to the guns thing, I believe in pretty strong gun control laws when it comes to open/concealed carry and automatic weapons. Rifles and shotguns and handguns in a private residence, not so much. But as long as this country is going to be a wild west show, I will be armed myself because, as I said, I'm NOT a pacifist. I believe strongly in self defense.

How could you tell he wouldn't win without knowing him? Not saying you wouldn't beat him, but it's very dangerous to underestimate an opponent you know nothing about. He could have just gotten out of the Navi SeALs for all you know. Unless of course, he looked much older than you, and you are a professional fighter. :)

111. Yeah, I guess it did come off like that. OK, reset.............
I'm the world's most laid back guy 98% of the time and I would NEVER start anything with ANYBODY at ANY time. However, I do have TWO flash points. One of them is I have a SERIOUS suspicion of authority. I'm a leftist after all. And my second flash point is bullies. I WILL NOT TOLERATE BULLIES. Now that doesn't mean I go around getting into physical confrontations with bullies every time I see one. But what it DOES mean is that I will not back down from a bully whether it's verbal OR physical.

Now, I can't take a poke at anybody unless they try to hit me or somebody else first or I'm in just as much trouble as if I HAD pulled a gun and shot somebody. Because I'm that well trained. BTW, I'm almost 60 which means that VERY few people are older than me.

As to the underestimation of an opponent, if you'll reread my first post, I said that I would either kick his ass, if he made it a physical confrontation, OR I would make him pay for the privlidge of kicking mine. That left open the possibility that he might be BETTER trained than me and that he MIGHT win a physical confrontation. But I will guarantee that anybody who does try to hurt me WILL NOT COME OUT OF IT UNSCATHED. They WILL pay a price for trying to hurt me.

Finally, the whole point of my statements is that we cannot let them INTIMIDATE us into not fighting for our positions. If some loud mouth is spouting RW talking points WITHOUT REFUTATION, you might as well concede the country to them.

25. Many of the survivors of that time started seeing the similarities
under Junior. If you said it out loud then you were shut down.

If people do not understand the threat that the right and their propaganda media pose to the U.S.A. they will be the very same people who scream the loudest when it happens.

Does anyone here think the suppression of the hippies in the 60's, the bombing of the row houses in the 70's by the police were accidents? Many who were not impacted looked the other way and didn't care because it didn't happen to them so why should they care.

There are way too many Americans that are content with the oppressive and aggressive acts against the population. They just don't realize they have been lulled into a false sense of security.

For those here and other places that keep complaining that they are not seeing fast enough results. I guarantee if the Republicans come into power again you will see law move so fast to give more power to the Corporations and you will have NOTHING. No protections, no health care, no jobs and no hope.

To ignore the danger that potentially lies ahead is to our own peril. History has already shown us what can happen.

66. "Bombing of row houses in the '70s"?
The only incident I can think of is the MOVE incident in Philadelphia in 1985 where the city's mayor tried to forcibly evict members of some commune by firebombing their house, and the ensuing fire quickly spread to many other houses in the neighborhood. The adult members of the commune didn't seem to garner much public sympathy, but as I recall, the other victims, including the children of commune members, did.

Edited on Mon Sep-06-10 01:27 PM by Jade Fox
I ran up against it at work recently when a co-worker said a ridiculously racist thing, and I dared to object to it.
Now she's furious at me, like I was mean to object to her racism. These people want to be loved in spite of their ignorance, and are furious that they are not! Naturally, this woman is a big Christian.

It is clear to me that a lot of what is fueling the White People self pity behind the Tea Party movement is that they want to feel special and exotic (like Native Americans) and noticed for the wrongs done to them (like African Americans). Ridiculous, I know. But it boils down to white jealousy and self-pity.

... racism. A black man as president.

Losers, idiots, low-performance people, low-paid people, unachievers - they could always look down at the Black Man. "At least I'm not a nig---!" is what a lot of janitors, etc would say to themselves.

The current rage from the brainless is what happens when one of the few things that they had to feel superior to a large group of people disappears.

some fairly outrageous things, but through eight years of the disaster that was Bush, I never heard of a liberal behaving like that. Yet such behavior seems to be relatively common among conservatives. Their anger tends to be more hateful and violent fueled by fear and ignorance, not to mention opportunists like Beck and Limbaugh. 108. Actually, it's both "neighbor" AND "each other."
John 13:34 - "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another."

John 13:35 - "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

John 15:12 - "This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

John 15:17 - "These things I command you, that ye love one another.

Roman 13:8 - "Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

Thessalonians 3:12 - "And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you..."

Thessalonians 4: 9 - "But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another."

Note - Loving one's "neighbor" is referred to 16 times and loving "each other" is referred to 15 times in the KJV of the NT.

- I knew that all those days and nights listening to my father preach way back when would one day payoff.....

I would NEVER... NEVER EVER vote Republican. Have I said never?

No matter how pissed off I am at Obama for continuing TWO WARS and the killing OUR AMERICAN SERVICEMEN AND SERVICEWOMAN UNNECESSARILY - not to mention thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians, not signing an executive order to stop harassing our gay men and woman that serve OUR country FOR US, expanding wiretapping, non-transparency, leaving too many loopholes in the Health Care Bill, allowing Pharma to continue the way it has been, not prosecuting the ENTIRE bush administration for war crimes, not enforcing enough regulation on wall street and now having 'some' democrats actually "for" keeping the bush tax cuts for the wealthy.

As outraged as I am for all of that... it still does not mean I would vote for ANY Republican Politician. They literally are a very immature, selfish, arrogant, obnoxious and ignorant group of people who do nothing but lie and use fear to gain votes for themselves... they would actually even sell their mothers if it would benefit them in any way. Everything they stand for is money for themselves and their rich friends. That's all they really care about... money, money and power. They seem to think that because they came from money - they are better than everyone else. If only they had the b@lls to walk in the shoes of a middle-class American - as we are now... you know - after their leader fu@ked the middle class up for the last eight years. Those bastards would hate it AND they would NEVER be able to handle it. But I do believe in Karma, so I will continue to vote Democrat (even though they suck too).

republican would kill the chance this nation has of trying to catch up to the rest of the world. If
we don't then start explaining to your children why we failed them and what they have to begin doing
now to over come them by voting too.

78. These people are just too ignorant to realize they are the bane of the civilization that
Grants them security.

They simply can't grasp that if everyone were just like them, we'd still be uncovering the mysteries of stone and fire... nevermind the fucking wheel.

80. Makes clear the right wing power to create murderers ... not unlike "pro-life" activists --
Trust liberals/progressives didn't fight this hard to overcome GOP/right wing in

electing Obama only to let the discouragement of Obama/Dems keep them home --

Don't see anyone wanting to go backwards --

but I do think that liberals/progressives should stick together as a voting bloc

and take advantage of any opportunity to move the party to the left --

to rid the party of DLC/New Dem/Blue Dog poison -- to target right wing Dems and

replace them with more liberal Dems --

and that includes Obama in 2012!!

88. My Dh is currently working in Tennessee
outside Chattanooga. He doesn't have an Obama sticker on his truck-- he has NY State plates. That has earned him quite a few stares and unkind comments. He says they don't like people coming in from the North, they think he is taking their jobs. He is actually working a job there but he obtained it through the union fairly. He has kept it fairly after passing tests and a background check. Every week people are laid off and people are brought in.

People who have had to travel from home to work need to be careful. The anger towards Mexicans coming here is easily turned on people from out of the region, state, community.

Adding a bumper sticker -- even his union sticker is also a cause. He told me last week he was hanging out with some brothers from up our way (Rochester and Chicago) and their party was getting the stink eye. He said they pretty much had to stay at the chain restaurant (Applebees) as there would likely be trouble in a local place.

My family lives in Nashville. They transplanted about 15 years ago. It is more cosmopolitan than say.... Murfeesboro.

91. I firmly stand on the Left and no one will move me to the Right
I'm not so stupid to think they're really not a threat. They are and all anyone needs to do is look at history. The worst governments and the worst personages in history are those to the Right. Totalitarians, dictators and Theocracies are far Right and they always keep power through extreme methods of oppression and government sanctioned terror tactics.

If we can't stop them they will do in the US what they've done in any other country. We aren't immune nor will we escape such governments if they take power. It can happen here. And that's why freedom isn't a given.

I honestly think Obama knows that point all to well. So I will vote for him again. I had hope he would have put in a single payer plan for health insurance. But I agree we must all get off our butts and go vote.

99. Judd Gregg
Got a deferment during the Vietnam War because of acne and sleepwalking.

Oh, and daddy was a former governor and muckity-muck at a prominent bank, but that had NOTHING to do with this.

Meanwhile, some poor mill worker's kid from Manchester or Berlin bled to death in a rice paddy.

101. Judd Gregg story
About ten years back, his wife won around $100,000 in the Virginia lottery.

Gregg comes from a very wealthy family. His father was a player at Indian Head Bank, a large bank in the Nashua/Manchester/Concord corridor.

The Greggs owned expensive homes in Greenfield, NH, Rye Beach, NH, and northern Virginia.

Did they donate the money to the Nashua Soup Kitchen, A Safe Place, New Horizons Shelter, the Manchester Boys and Girls Club?

Nope.

The Greggs kept the money.

and I will get out and vote for the Dems this elections. But, this part made me say, huh???

"If you voted for Obama and are now disappointed because he is too Liberal for you"

Anyone on the left side of the spectrum that believes this is fairly confused on what "too Liberal" means. And if she was refering to "moderates", then they are just Repubs ashamed with their own parties current state of affairs and only wish defeat of the Democratic party

110. Do you ever wonder
why not voting for the rightest Democrats is unthinkable when compared to the out of sight far right Republicans? Do you ever wonder how it came to pass that there are only two viable political parties in our country or why one is the bride of Wall Street and the other just its mistress?

yes, we must get out and vote in nov democrats - we are seeing how misinforming and divisive the neocon repubs can be to get back into power to save their failed ideology of anti-gov/anti-reg supplyside trickledown economics - don't let the neocons back in to finish ruining the middle class and the country
