Alabama: Brooks Up By Double Digits in New Poll
Madison County Commissioner Mo Brooks is leading Democratic political consultant Steve Raby (D) by 11 points in northern Alabama's 5th district, according to a new internal poll released by the Republican's campaign Monday.

The survey, which was in the field August 22-23, showed Brooks ahead 48 percent to 37 percent, with 14 percent undecided. The poll of 400 likely 5th district voters was conducted by the GOP firm Public Opinion Strategies and had a 4.9 point margin of error.

Brooks has been favored to become the next Congressman from the 5th district ever since he beat party-switching Rep. Parker Griffith in the Republican primary in the conservative Huntsville-based district. A poll conducted by POS for Brooks right after the June primary showed Brooks ahead of Raby 48 percent to 40 percent with 13 percent undecided.

The August poll showed Brooks continuing to hold a wide lead among Independent voters. The latest survey showed Brooks with a 24-point lead in that category. In June he led by 20 points among Independents.
