What an inconsequential Democratic primary in Florida.

How depressing that a state like Florida can't product a Senate candidate with a chance to win.

I'm sure Meek is a good guy and a good Democrat... but he'll get no money and support, and he'll be an embarrassing afterthought. Kind of like the GOP candidate in Connecticut in 2006.

1. I don't understand why it isn't a closer three way race.

2. I hate primaries.
I like general elections. The real deal. The big dance.

3. More registered Democrats in Fla than Republicans--Democrats
just do not vote.

Republicans had the turnout, apparently.

This is typical.

13. Many of the registered Democrats in Florida haven't voted for a Democrat in 30 years.
They're Dixiecrats who simply never changed their party affiliation.

16. Sorry
but most of the Dixiecrats are dead and long burried. That was a very long time ago. The vast majority (nearly all) of dems and even some r's voted for Obama in 2008. What you are saying was true when Reagan ran, but really is not anymore. A fair number of dixiecrats voted for Reagan because he was seen as a "nice young man". In short, they were older than Reagan.

Dems in Fl these days are quite diverse. A big chunk of us originally came from Puerto Rico and are a reason that repugs can no longer count on winning the hispanic vote.

19. Funny, one of the featured speakers at the Democratic Party in my community
last year was someone who spoke about the Dixiecrats--and most everyone agreed with him.

Having made calls myself and talked to people whose names were on the rolls as Democrats but said, "I haven't voted for a Democrat for President in 30 years", I think this group of people does exist.

They're only very loosely affiliated with any national party and don't much vote in primaries. And they're not the original Reagan Democrats or the Dixiecrats of the 1950s, but a group who started voting solidly Republican in the 90s.

The voter rolls in North Florida still show a much higher percentage of registered Democrats than people who ever vote for Democrats.

Which doesn't mean that you aren't correct about Florida being a very diverse state. And I'll believe that what you say about the hispanic vote is true.

18. Exactly
Good old boys up in the Panhandle who never got around to going down to the county courthouse to change party registration. They may still be "Dimmicrat" on paper because their great-grandfather's barn was burned down by those "invading" Yankee troops so many years ago.

They were segregationists during the Civil Rights movement, George Wallace voters in 1968, perhaps Carter voters in 1976, and maybe a smattering voted for Clinton in 92 and 96. They rarely actually vote for Democrats anymore.

They are waning with age and time. By and large their children and grandchildren are actual registered Republicans.

8. My thinking as well
Meek just beat Jeff Greene and his 38 Million dollars. And he was supposed to lose. Who's to say that he can't get the Democratic vote and have Crist and Rubio split the Republican vote?? It can happen!!

Has Florida ever elected a black person to a state-wide office?

10. He just beat a guy who tried to buy his name on the ticket. This said,
it is depressing so many dems decided he had lost before he even started to run.

11. You are wrong.
He already has gotten plety of support. Who in the world gives up at the beginning of a fight? I do not want Rubio and I sure as heck don't want Crist. His BS about being able to help the state more as a Senator is pathetic. The only person he wants to help is himself. His lovely (vote 'buying') vetoes done in the last months are evidence that he could do more good as a governor, but Crist is for Crist. Nothing has changed about him except for the initial behind his name.

15. "He already has gotten plety of support"

Less than 15% at this point is not plenty of support. That's less than 2 out of every 10 voters.

14. Why don't we wait and see what happens...

rather than pouncing with the negative comments. I'm sure Meek is thrilled that he beat the guy who tried
to buy the election (and who is probably NOT a real democrat). I'm thrilled for Meek too.

20. yeah yeah... so screw the only democrat in the race
and vote for the candidate who will finish distant 2nd, the Chameleon Crist.
How does that help future prospects for dem candidates in FL?

The problem is not Kendrick Meeks. The problem is Florida voters.
