Angle campaigned against black football jerseys (they're evil)
Huffington Post:

Nevada Republican Senate candidate Sharron Angle once partook in a campaign against a local high school's use of black football jerseys, arguing that the dark color was ungodly and wicked, Bill Roberts of Nevada's Pahrump Valley Times recently reported.

It was Homecoming of 1992 and Nevada's Tonopah High School football was seeking to depart from their school colors, specifically in wearing black jerseys instead of the usual red and white. The uniform change was meant to be a display of solidarity; the year before, the team had suffered an embarrassing loss at the hands of a rival that had, up to that point, been winless. The Homecoming game in 1992 was their chance to make up for that plaguing defeat in front of the whole school, and they wanted to do something special to build the team's spirits.

-snip-

While some detractors made the argument that adopting the new color was unacceptable simply as a breach of tradition, Angle -- who was in the midst of an eventually successful campaign for school board -- and others argued that wearing black jerseys was closer to sacrilege.

"I cannot quote scripture as they did to justify their point but the gist of their argument was that black as a color was thoroughly evil, invoking the supernatural and especially the devil," Roberts reports. "Whichever argument prevailed, school administrators caved in and prohibited the Muckers from wearing the black apparel."

The black uniforms were then confiscated and held under "lock and key" by the administration, which refused to compensate the team for the money they had spent acquiring the jerseys.

In a recent interview, Angle claimed that she cannot recall the incident, or her position on it.

3. Amazing
In 1984 South Carolina's football team had unexpected success, going 10-1 and being ranked as high as second. The coach was Joe Morrison, who had played for the New York Giants in the 70's. His trademark was dressing all in black, and the team stayed with the all black uniforms they were wearing that year, so the press dubbed it the "Black Magic" season. Sure enough, there was a handful of preachers at every game protesting the black magic tag and shouting about how the bible condemns one to hell even if you are playfully calling out demons or practicing the black arts. It was fun hearing people walk by them and proclaim "I go to church, but these damn people are crazy!"

6. maybe she'll crack down on car-stealing goats
no one else in this country seems willing to do it, but Sharron might be up to it.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7846822.stm

Police in Nigeria are holding a goat handed to them by a vigilante group, which said it was a car thief who had used witchcraft to change shape.

A police spokesman in Kwara State has been quoted as saying that the "armed robbery suspect" would remain in custody until investigations were over.

But another police spokesman told the BBC the goat was being held in case its owner claimed it.

The belief in witchcraft and the power to change shapes is common in Nigeria.

Police reform activists have condemned the "arrest", saying it highlights the low education levels of many Nigerian police officers.

12. When this came out, my first thought was "does that include black people too?"

I cannot believe that the repugs in Nevada voted for this woman over Sue Lowden. Just how ignorant and scary can one be? She apparently doesn't believe that a young girl has a right to an abortion if raped or molested, no "it's god's will." She apparently believes that those departments like the FDA, USDA, EPA which are supposed to protect us from corporate unhealthy practices should be done away with. She's a downright hypocrite when it comes to social security--first wanted to get rid of it and now (plastered on the damn TV at least more than a dozen times a day) she's protecting it, want's to personalize it, wants to lock the box. I'd laugh if it wasn't so serious. Apparently, wants to do away with the public education system--what does she think, we all want to go to some ignorant church school or corporations can do it better?

You better believe my whole family will be voting, just because she's that damn scary!

13. Don't forget the Oakland Raiders and the NO Saints
Oh wait, those must be godless teams!!!!

And in some cultures black and white have different meanings. I mean if she wants to get literal with the Bible, then I wonder if she does animal sacrifices because burning flesh is pleasing to the lord. If she has a daughter, will she sell her into slavery? I mean she can do that as long as it's with a neighboring land. Will she kill her neighbors if they don't observe the sabbath or have a different sabbath than hers?

:silly:

21. Interesting research on black apparel
This is a big off topic but -- I have felt uncomfortable about black apparel since I tried wearing some black items in the 1990's. I discovered that black clothing just does not work in my circles, at least. I also noticed that black apparel does not seem to work well for most others over the longer term. Politicians seem to shun the color. Hillary Clinton wore black a lot when she campaigned for president and I often wonder if she had managed to avoid the color if she would have beat Obama.

Back then, I did some research to see what was going on with black clothing. Here's some of what I found:

1. Some studies showed that teams wearing black clothing are punished more harshly by referees than teams wearing other colors. I don't think this has anything to do with race. If you put a bunch of blond-haired/blue eyed kids in black uniforms, the refs don't like them either.

2. Students who wear black are punished more harshly for rule violations than students who wear other colors.

3. Research from law enforcement agencies has shown that police are attacked more often when they wear dark color (e.g., black and navy blue). The best colors for law enforcement uniforms are similar to those used by the highway patrol in California -- authoritative but friendly.

Some theories about why black apparel often evokes negative reactions include its associations with bad guys such as Hells Angels and the Mafia, it's use at funerals, etc. The color brown does not evoke such negative reactions in most places in our culture -- instead it is seen as warm and friendly. Brown is a great career color for women -- authoritative and friendly at the same time.

I don't know anything about what the Bible says about black clothing but it would be interesting to me if those who wrote the Bible suggested avoiding black clothing too. It could be the folk lore about black clothing goes way back in history.

I am way off topic here but I did think the stuff about black clothing is interesting.
