U.S. Economy Will Be Dominant Issue in November's Elections, Senators Say

By Cotten Timberlake and James Rowley

The state of the U.S. economy will be the dominant issue deciding the outcome of November’s congressional elections, senators from both parties said today.

<...>

Cornyn predicted Republicans will gain control of the Senate by the end of the 2012 elections, and will pull policies more toward the center of the political spectrum. Democrats control a 59-41 majority in the Senate, and 37 of those seats are at stake this year. All 435 House seats are at stake in November and Republicans must gain a net 40 seats to take the leadership.

<...>

An NBC-Wall Street Journal poll conducted Aug. 5-9 showed that 52 percent of voters disapproved of Obama’s management of the economy, compared with 44 percent who approved.

Democrats will highlight the contrasts between their party and Republicans, who have opposed economic stimulus, health-care overhaul and financial-regulatory legislation, Kaine said.

A spokesman for the Republican campaign committee said the Democratic record will be hard to defend.

Dream on Cornyn!

1. Democrats should start to tell the voters what they have done and why
it needs a large presence in the media, talk shows, interviews. Dems have to barge their way in. The DNC should psend some money on TV ads.

to spend $50 million. They definitely need to ramp up the ads.

2. Two factors drive the American electorate
1.- The price of gasoline
2.- The price of beer

If beer is cheap, and gas is cheap, everybody is happy.

Otherwise, there is trouble.

This is the modern day equivalent of bread and circus.

5. Dems dont just need to sell their accomplishments
they need to go on the offense and change the political narrative. Every single democrat in congress needs to grow some balls and stop acting like pussies. Come out hard and strong and make it very clear what the republicans have done and want to do. If every single congressman had the courage of Alan Grayson, the political landscape would be completely different and the press would be focusing squarely on how incredibly childish the repubs have acted over the past 2 years and the fact that they have no ideas to do anything.

The narrative that repubs will dominate in November is there because dems allow it to be.
