So now part-time activists who jumped on the Obama bandwagon are now his "BASE"?
Edited on Wed Aug-11-10 11:20 AM by cottonseed
Give me a fucking break. This guy was one of the most popular politicians in a generation, had the full backing of everyone that mattered; politicians, business people, unions, Hollywood, the youth and minorities (you know his "real" base) and the list goes on. He ran against the worst 2 candidates that I can remember and now a miserable left somehow thinks that they alone got him elected.

Excuse me while I shit funnies....

Then again, I guess the same type that thinks we should have nationalized BP and Kucinich is a viable candidate can convince themselves of anything.

1. Did you walk door to door to get him elected?

Along with (wo)manning phones & driving people to their polling places.

Nevermore.

13. I, on the other hand, have done it in every election for the last 20 years
And can't wait to do it again starting in September.

19. I'm not going to play one-upmanship with you
nor do you have any idea of my loong history of supporting and volunteering for the Democratic Party,

who apparently doesn't need me at this late date.

So good for you. Print out a paper medal for yourself,
and enjoy working the campaigns with many fewer people, all of whom the party doesn't seem to need. Good for you! :eyes:

28. Nothing to do with you claiming our numbers will decrease because you tender feelings are hurt.
If I want to accuse you of dishonesty or exaggeration, I will. But in this case it's neither. You're simply incorrect. The Democrat's numbers will continue to increase long after pouty "progressives" have gone home.

20. Well, then, you obviously don't think that the Party needs people who've done it less than 20 years.
Hmm, I wonder why the Party has lost so much of the dominance it once had in recent decades.

Perhaps you should brush up on some political history.

Which it seems the loud majority on this board is willing to do.

23. Note how the OP has ignored your question
Why is it the folks with the deepest ass-dent in their couches are always telling the activists how they don't matter? You can almost smell the cheetoh-dust.

No, the constant attacks on Dems who criticize Obama threatens to further undermine Dem hopes this November.

many of his critics still like and respect him, and still support him. That's why Gibbs's comments seem off the mark.

8. Nice dodge
Let's see, it's not like he won by 20% or something. His margin was about 7% or so. So almost anyone can claim they "got him elected". The real important part is we ALL got him elected, and trying to marginalize any part of that as some how "in need of drug testing" is foolish and best and ignorant at worst.

He's fought with the unions in Arkansas and then told them they "wasted" their money.

He's fighting with the teachers unions everywhere.

He pushed out the single payer folks, doctors and nurses amongst them, from the very beginning.

His CoS insulted major progressive action committees.

I'm not sure how many more "base" constinuencies we can afford to piss off.

12. I liked DU when Bush was pres and we threw tantrums over every decision we could bend...
Edited on Wed Aug-11-10 11:32 AM by cottonseed
I thought we were doing a service by undermining his Presidency by having absolute fits over every stupid little miscommunication and by bending decisions this way and that. Now that our guy is in (a Democrat remember?) it just seems stupid to me.

15. A centrist
So you have situational ethics? It's only wrong when your opponent does it? You'r afraid to criticize your friends when they make the same stupid mistakes?

Obama's a centrist, the progressives shouldn't notice?

...people wanted change...he rode the wave, he didn't create it...if he's so popular why do his numbers now suck?

11. Love the rant! And Michael Bennett, who actually embraced the president,
is loving his victory all the more. His "BASE" is just fine with him. My advice to Gibbs, and anyone who matters is to just tune out the noise. He should talk to Skinner about the "Ignore" function, and then use it "liberally".

There's a reason why Fox will never have to worry about it's #1 status on cable. Actual Democrats don't have a place to turn for news, because the "professional left" have all gone as nutty as Jane Hamsher. I guess nutty sells.

18. Hey, you forgot "self-defined" and "elitist"!
And you weren't nearly negative enough in your gratuitous attack on those whom most Democrats would like to see getting out and supporting Dem candidates in the upcoming midterm elections. How can you expect to chase away needed allies when you pull your punches like that?

(Sarcasm alert)
